Brian Fletcher -- cinderella prospect?

The 23-year-old left fielder (out of Auburn) for the Royals' Single-A Kane County Cougars finished his first full season in 2011 with great offensive numbers:

.328/.386/.560 - 14HR, 31 doubles, and 112 hits in 376 PAs.

The "However,"s:

24/80 BB/K

.956 Fld%

Part of me thinks "Wow, if he could just improve defensively over the next couple of years the guy could have the potential to be a great asset to the major league team."

Then another part of me thinks "Hey--how often do minor league outfielders at the age of 23 (who played several years in college) actually end up improving defensively?"

Then I realized I don't know the answer to that question, so I thought I'd, you know, post something about him here.

And his inability to take a walk could mean he'll never get above the AA level. The guy would be comparable to Kila if he had some BBs.

John Sickels ranked him '#21' in the Top 20 Royals Prospects for 2012

Sometimes I wonder if having the best farm system in the history of whatever causes us to overlook guys who might actually have a shot.
