Who won? Yanks or Mariners?

I think the Yanks win
I’ve never been as high as Montero as others. He can’t catch, so he’s not a premium position, and if he does, he’s hurting you defensively. Pineda has at least proven himself in one season. And pitchers are more valuable than hitters.
But its pretty fair and the Ms had pitching to spare and need offense badly so it makes sense.

How bad does he have to be defensively though?
He hasn’t been shifted yet… maybe he’s just below average at the MLB level, or even somewhat bad, while hitting a ton. I’d take at C.
Nick Swisher and Johnny Giavatella deserve treats in the Kaufmann parking lot.
I don't like the Yankees having Pineda, but I don't care about the Mariners having Montero...
therefor Yanks win.

Plus the Yankees get Campos
Mariners #5 prospect, dominated A ball as an 18 year old. WTF.
Mariners get Hector Noesi
Who is a MLB ready that Sickels rated a B prospect a year ago

even though i'm a little confused by what the mariners did here
they seem to be putting a little too much faith in the idea that good pitching prospects in minors=good pitching rotation in the majors. seems the better idea would’ve been to trade off some of the prospects instead of pineda.
they had pineda for five seasons
he has produced in the majors unlike any of the prospects. why not just keep him around and try to build the offense up? instead, they traded a point of strength to fix a weakness while hoping that their prospects make that point a strength again. i dont know, for me, i’d rather see them use their pitching prospects as the point of strength to trade from. i’m just a little confused, but my grass creek hate could be spewing out here.
I suppose
I just see them being 2-3 years off, so they’re better off keeping Pineda, keeping the prospects and building up a decent core around Ackley and Smoak until they bad contracts like Chone and Ichiro fall to the wayside and they can get actual hitters.

I'd think that would've been the best course as well
Just seems odd to trade what looks to be a 2/3 starter with five years of control for a DH. The Mariners likely aren’t a better team in 2012 because of this trade, and I’m not sure this trade ever makes them a better team.
Kudos to Cashman for pulling this off after what the Reds and Nationals paid for Latos and Gonzalez,.

I think it was Heyman or Rosenthal
That claims the Mariners could have had Montero and Betances and Banuelos and possibly even Nova for Felix Hernandez.
I love Felix, but how do you not pull the trigger on that if you’re Jack Z?
