Bummer for the Tigers...
but good for the Royals. On MLBtraderumors the Detroit fans think they’re now in it for Fielder, and ‘even though they lost V-Mart, the division is still in the bag’. We’ll see.
If women only slept with nice guys...guys would only be nice. And they don't. And we're not.
Prince's dad had several good years in Detroit.
I saw him play at ancient Tiger Stadium.
"Yeah, the maple kind, right?"
That's not exactly a point
in favor of Prince signing with Detroit.
2011 Royals Review NCAA Bracket Challenge Winner, by process of attrition
I can't see how they are in on Prince
That would mean either Miggy or Prince would have to DH, and neither is going to want to do that. And what happens in 2013 when VMart returns? Prince isn’t going to sign a one year deal.

The overall difference is maybe a win
Martinez has pretty much been relegated to DH duties at this point in his career. While he is still a decent hitter, he projected as something like 2.5 WAR DH this year. There still a few free agents that could come close to matching that (Carlos Pena!), or at the very least, Detroit cobble together a platoon that could post something around 1.5 WAR (for example, pairing Ryan Raburn with one of the remaining lefty 1B/DH/OF types).
Makes them even more right-handed as well.
Go Royals!
depends on who they bring in
if it is Pena or one of the “lefty 1B/DH/OF types,” it keeps them the same.
FWIW, I crunched the ZiPS team projections by adding PA’s for Raburn (to LF) and Santiago (full-time 2B, no share with Raburn) and giving some more PA’s to Strieby and I got a projection 1.5 wins lower for the Tigers.

Significant but not crippling hit.
Go Royals!
If Detroit got Carlos Pena, wouldn't he play first with Miggy playing less in the field?
Since 2005: Royals win% = .4100, Chiefs win% = .4095

That might be the best play, but Cabrera is the big star and you don’t want to piss off the big star. If he wants to play in the field, then they’ll leave him there until he becomes a major liability.
