BA Royals Top Ten (Free Version)
Just the free list. However, the top picks of the last decade is one of the most interesting pieces of data. Other than Lubanski, it is clear that KC is drafting better with the 1st pick.

I want to see Terrance Gore and Jarrod Dyson in a footrace

he has Giavotella as the starting 2B in 2015. don't know if that will happen
but it might.

Giavotella
He is the only one in that 2015 lineup that has a shot of not starting.

Also No Cuthbert
Would probably be our DH if we somehow get rid of Butler, could also be swapped for a 2nd baseman if Giavotella doesn’t work out or a starting pitcher.
"get rid of butler?"
Yes, because he’s such a liability. If you want to trade him for a good piece, okay, but the way you phrased it makes it sound like you think Butler is the problem with this team.

Thought it would seem the opposite.
I can see where you are coming from but my use of “somehow” was the the fact that he is a centerpiece and we shouldn’t get rid of him.
Those future lineups are always a bit of a joke

So...
….are you saying Mike Aviles isn’t going to be the 2014 second baseman?
…because that’s what my BA Handbook told me last year.
He Could Be

Obviously, the future lineups do not consider trades.
They may not consider failure either, but I would argue they do since they assign a player to each position based on how good they think they are or will be.

Was anyone else sort of disturbed by the lack of a left margin?

I felt like I was about to tip over in my chair reading it.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
Rock Chalk Talk
Royals
I would like to see the royals get a high price free agent pitcher like Matt Cain to go with Montgomery, Duffy, Lamb and Odorizzi. That 2015 Team is going to be sick.

From the pay part, here is a money quote.
For the Royals to return to contention, their starting pitching prospects will have to step up after a disappointing 2011.
and another quote and the answer to a question I asked this year....
…they hope that the hiring of former Tigers pitching coach Rick Knapp as pitching coordinator will help end their difficulties in developing starting pitchers. Zack Greinke is their lone homegrown starter to post a sub-4.00 ERA since 2000…..
Yes guys, you can say all you want that it isn’t our player development and not our pitching guru of the past, but this is what the new pitching coach of the Boston Red Sox accomplished in his tenure here.
Sucks for them.
That hire still baffles me.

The interview on FanGraphs with Ben Cherington a while ago...
Basically said that Valentine and McClure “hit it off.” Always a sure sign of success – The Buddy System.

They are the highest I've seen on Monty
Monty has the best stuff out of all the pitchers in the system in my mind, but with his control issues I always drop him below Myers.
I wonder how far they have dropped Myers
Given his ranking going into 2011 and his midseason ranking, I would have thought they’d have Myers at around #20. Do they just absolutely love Monty and Starling and them both in the top 20? Or is the group-think at BA pushing Myers lower, like closer to #50?
You may know me as NYRoyal.
by Scott McKinney on Jan 18, 2012 11:06 AM EST up reply actions
if i had to guess, i think all three will be between 20 and 30
myers was at 17 on the midseason list that didnt include the 2011 draftees. you gotta figure at least 7 or 8 of those guys will be ahead of myers. it is interesting though that monty jumped myers. he didnt really do anything noteworthy from july 7 to now, whereas myers got healthy and played very well in the AFL.

Probably optimistic new ideas will cure the correctable problems he has.

I think it was on Twitter...
But JJ Cooper mentioned that 2 other BA guys had different #1s. One had Bubba and another guy had Myers. Would be hard to say where they end up in full rankings, but I figure Myers has to be the best ranked, especially if they are conscientious of his injury issues last year (and the freak nature of it).

On the podcast, they talked about the disagreement over who is #1
John Manuel had Myers #1
J.J. Cooper had Monty #1
Jim Callis had Bubba #1

My favorite
was the blank left next to “discipline” under tools.
"Trying is the first step to sucking" -Jimmy Chance
Ha, yeah it does look that way.
But I think It’s meant to be “strike zone discipline”
I will say this makes me really optimistic. I remember the first time I saw this page way back in 2006, and like 2/3rds of our “top prospects of the decade” and our top draft picks were either on different teams or out of baseball. Plus our projected lineup for the future looked abysmal.
Now if our lineup in 2015 turns out like they say I’d be ecstatic.
"We don’t have guys with a long history of being effective in the seventh and eighth innings."
~Trey Hillman, master of understatements.
BA's Projected 2009 lineup from the 2006 handbook:
C: John Buck
1b: Justin Huber
2b: Jeff Bianchi
3b: Alex Gordon
SS: Angel Berroa
LF: Mike Lubanski
CF: David DeJesus
RF: Mitch Maier
DH: Billy Butler
No. 1: Zack Greinke
No. 2: Denny Bautista
No. 3: Luis Cota
No. 4: Runelvys Hernandez
No. 5: J.P. Howell
CL: Ambiorix Burgos
Wow.
I knew
It was strike zone discipline. The fact that we have no prospects that excel in that skill, considering our VERY long history of an inability to take walks is what makes it so funny.
There have been 428 player seasons of 75 or more walks since a Royal last broke that barrier. (Jose Offerman, 1998)

Wil Myers Is
The player in the Strike Zone Discipline category.

At least we are not
a blank for power hitter. There have been 394 seasons of 25 or more home runs since a Royal last broke that barrier. (Carlos Beltran, 2003)
"Trying is the first step to sucking" -Jimmy Chance
In my opinion
Even with all the graduations, i can’t think of a team with a better top 6 players(Myers,Starling,Cuthbert,Monty,Lamb,Odorizzi)
Even could go as far as saying top 10 depending on how much you like Dwyer,Ventura,Adam,Herra, Colon, Hernandez,Bonifico, etc.
Teams like the Rays and Blue Jays may have more depth overall even though we still have some good guys after our top but our top 10 is still pretty legit even after all the graduations.
Eh...
Some other good systems I can think of… Rangers, Padres, Nationals…
by hawkinscm87 on Jan 19, 2012 11:46 AM EST up reply actions
Still doubt they compare
At least as far as top 6-10 go. Especially not the nationals after they unloaded 3 or 4 of their top prospects.
Rangers have Perez and Profar but as a top 10 i will still take the Royals.
Best Changeup & Control
Under normal circumstances, John Lamb would have these categories in the bag, correct? Maybe not.
