Rustin Dodd: Looking at the Royals' salary commitments for 2012
At the moment, the Royals have 15 players on their 40-man roster under contract for a combined $47.742 million in 2012.
That of course does not include Alex Gordon.

Why is there doubt that Gordon will be signed long-term?
Moore’s history and all the evidence points to Gordon signing an extension.
The future is always in doubt because it hasn't happened yet.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but I expect it to happen.
Because it isn't easy to do
I think both sides are willing to do it for the right price. We have no idea if the two sides, in the end, are going to be able to come up with a price that is acceptable to both sides.
Right now I’d guess that there’s a 70% chance that this happens.

Any ideas on what the chances are that it will be front-loaded?
I think Mellinger argued this on the Don’t Kill the Mellinger. But my understanding is that front-loading never happens even if it makes a ridiculous amount of sense.
billys contract was one of the more front loaded contracts of this type that ive seen...
and it wasnt frontloaded at all

Yeah, I think the best we can hope for is an arb-discounted salary or two followed by a flat amount for later years
like Butler’s contract.
