Brickhouse, but he's probably not a sleeper
I think most consider him one of the Royals #11-20 prospects.
You may know me as NYRoyal.
He Has A
Built in walk up song.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

It always amazed me...
…that Frank Brickowski didn’t use that song. At least, I never saw it happen… I suppose it’s possible I missed it since I never was that big of an NBA fan. But I remember seeing him announced pre-game plenty of times and wondering why they were ever using any other song…
OK, So He's
A pitcher.

If Yambati is healthy
I’m hoping for a bounceback year from him. After an 18.85 ERA and 9.14 FIP, it would be hard not to improve.
he'll bat against the NL sooner or later

Christian Colon?
He’s fallen so far by most I think I should get to claim him.

Daniel Mateo and Jecksson Flores
are two player I think will start getting their names mentioned more going forward… still a long ways away.
Two guys I've been keeping an eye on all year
Leondy Perez and Leonel Santiago.
Both at A ball. Both are a little old for the league, but both were also pretty raw prospects when they were signed and Santiago’s numbers in particular are very good 8.5K/9 and 4.5 K/BB ratio.
and keep in mind both outperformed more highly thought of guys in Jason Adams and Yordano Ventura
I also like Rey Navarro, though I don’t know if he still counts as a sleeper, and Nick Van Stratten(but only for his name and OBP skills)
"We don’t have guys with a long history of being effective in the seventh and eighth innings."
~Trey Hillman, master of understatements.
Smith
"That fucking fucker of a general swears too fucking much." --Unnamed soldier about Gen. George Patton, 1943
My sleepers would be:
Greg Billo – SP
Kyle T. Smith – SP
Yem Prades – OF
Nick DelGuidice – SS
Jorge Bonifacio – OF
Bonifacio is definitely not a sleeper
Goldstein had him at #7 on his top 11.

Sorry, I was a number off.
He was #8. He was a LA signing from ’09, IIRC.
No idea who they got as the PTBNL in the Gload deal. Can it still be Josh Johnson?

From B-R
April 1, 2009: Traded by the Kansas City Royals with cash to the Florida Marlins for a player to be named later. The Florida Marlins sent Eric Basurto (minors) (May 13, 2009) to the Kansas City Royals to complete the trade.

Piña showed an ability to take a walk.
If you can do that, you’re well on your way to being a legit catcher.

Seriously...why aren't people at least somewhat interested in him?
He has a ludicrous K/BB rate of almost 9.5. And then one can’t forget the guy’s negative FIP in Idaho Falls last year.

Apparently there's some trick in his delivery that fools lower level hitters
but isn’t likely to work when he advances. Goldstein alluded to something about this, but I never bothered to follow up on what that was.

Brian Fletcher
Robinson Yambati might be fun if he ever throws strikes. Is Tyler Sample still a thing?

Noel Arguelles.
I’m surprised none of you have mentioned him. The Royals limited his innings last year, and supposedly he still has good stuff. Also, he didn’t really pitch that bad last year if you look at it.
I expect him to pitch well next year and become a viable option for 2013/14.

Yeah, I didn't think so.
I think he’ll have a good season, though.

His pedestrian K/9 at High-A as a "21-year-old" is worrisome.

Presumably he long tossed in Cuba. And lost his velocity when he followed the Royals training program.
With Rick Knapps presence. He might regain his old form.

Don't think the shoulder surgery had anything to do with his lost velocity?

Elisual Pimentel
saw him pitch in two late season games for NWA last year and he was super impressive. good command of his fastball and curveball, wasn’t afraid to pitch inside, and induced a lot of strikeouts and groundouts.
i think this kid is poised for a breakout year in AA and will be in AAA by late summer.
by DickHowser4ever on Jan 21, 2012 9:36 PM EST reply actions
Greg Billo
I think he’ll make it quickly to AAA on pure guile, but will probably fall short of getting any significant ML playing time once everyone realizes he just doesn’t have enough stuff.
I still have misguided hope for Yambati.
Brickhouse and Junis could both step up in the prospect ranks.
I’m curious as to whether Eibner can improve on his 27.8 K% and BABIP of .271. His BB% (14.8) was good enough that you’d think maybe he can evaluate the strike zone at least a little bit, and that hopefully it was a matter of not having made the proper adjustments at the plate.
I’d like to know what’s up with Runey Davis who was in Idaho Falls last year. He was old for the level, but it was the first flash of something for him. He’d never played above Short-Season A-ball in the Cubs system and is still only 23. It’d be great if he actually put it together.
Jason Adam isn’t a sleeper, but I do expect him to build up the arm strength a bit more and add some velo.
Really curious about D’Andre Toney and Terrance Gore.
Obviously, there’s some reason to be hopeful about Brian Fletcher.

Brian Fletcher as a 1B and Tim Melville as SP
Like Fletcher’s RH power and believe he will be successful at 1B and as LF.
With Melville’s high profile draft, he may not be a sleeper but I do believe he has been forgotten as others like Odorizzi have passed him by. Some guys just take long to put it together. Patrick Keating is my sleeping in the bullpen. He has a power arm and can get the Ks when he is on.
Jack Lopez as a 2011 draft pick is my sleeper. He is a late round SS who signed overslot and was headed to Miami. He has a baseball background as his dad is in pro ball with the Reds. I read that he roomed with Starling during instructs so that he could help Bubba with transition. Some kids aren’t great physical tool sheds but are good baseball players.
Whit Merrifield.

Eligible? He looks very projectable.

Scoles makes an appearance here, too.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.
I'd imagine they'll both be in the Dominican League this year, which would leave them pretty raw still.

Are we allowed to call Aldaberto Mondesi a sleeper?
If so, I say him. I’m looking forward to following him this season, I’m hoping he plays in the U.S.

![Fresh on the heels of my award-winning 2008 Royals O-Swing Percentage Graph, here is a graph the O-Swing (percentage of pitches swung at outside of the strike zone) for all the teams of the AL Central from 2005-2008 by year, also compared to the MLB average. Remember -- this is for hitters, so lower is better.
(Maybe I [or someone else, of course] will do something like this for pitchers next week).
The results speak for themselvs, I guess, but they are saying all sorts of things. Discuss and enjoy!
