Around SBN: Ryder Hesjedal Wins Giro d'Italia

...I hope the new analyst has a good sense of humor because we do try to have a lot of fun with the broadcast. I hope it’s somebody whom enjoys coming to work everyday with the humble attitude that we are broadcasters and the reason people watch is because of the players. We have certain opinions and perspectives but we’re not smarter than anybody on the field. The viewers watch because they love the Royals and the game of baseball, not because of the announcers. I believe that’s something an announcer needs to come to grips with as soon as possible.

I wish Ryan LeFebvre had a decent sense of humor

People who think they are funny and try to be funny but really aren’t funny are the most painful to listen to. And I really don’t appreciate the inappropriate use of the word “whom.” Shame, Ryan. Shame.

You may know me as NYRoyal.

agreed

I hope whoever they hire does have a sense of humor, enough to realize that Ryan isn’t funny and not encourage his jokes. He’s terribly un-funny.

i only wish he practiced it…then he’d be a spectacular play by play guy

Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

But it sounds to me like he’s ripping on Frank’s Analyst abilities, and how if he had a better Analyst, he’d be able to do what he said.

frank sucked...

but i’ve long felt that ryan was part of the reason why frank sucked…we shall see. perhaps ryan will be vindicated.

definitely

It’s weird though since he seems to follow that when he’s calling games on radio. On TV he’s the exact opposite

You can call me Aaron Burr by the way I'm dropping Hamiltons!

i feel like if they get a guy in there with him who has a lot of intelligent stuff to say about the game and baseball in general...

he could be good…with frank, there was just too much dead time that had to be filled in with bullshit. on the radio, more description is obviously necessary which is ryans strong point.

I've always liked Ryan.

But then again, I’ve voted for Dayton Moore as being “competent” as well. Maybe you shouldn’t ask me…

I think Ryan is decent

A bit too “old school baseball” but other than that he’s cromulent.

Is Harry Doyle available?

I was trying to search for the pic of him so drunk he has his shirt off. Christ, I can’t find it. The hell with it.

Shouldn't the position be filled already?

What’s taking so long?

"Yeah, the maple kind, right?"

Maybe they think Ryan can go solo

like Vin Scully does for that franchise in Southern California that the Royals lifted their uniform design from. What are they called again?

Having spoken with him personally on several occasions

This makes me smile.

We should trade for Vance Worley.

"[W]e’re not smarter than anybody on the field."

You just can’t question the on-field success of the Royals. You have to be a humble Dayton and Mr. Glass are always right kind of guy.

True.

The point is that the coaches and players on the field were put there by management. Criticizing the players/coaches could be viewed by overly sensitive top dogs as a criticism of management. Frank gets canned for being too negative or too critical. Ryan goes out of his way to say he’s going to be humble and it comes across, in my opinion, as kissing management’s ass.
