After taking a beating in a previous thread, I figured I would take it up a notch. I have spent 17 years as a "true blue" fan who wants to "Believe" that is it about "Our Time". Over the past few years, many bash the results on the field which is very understandable. Easily we jump on Dayton for his yearly bone head signings. Where is the outcry for a major change. Not just in DM, why is there no desire to change the way we do business. A change in ownership may or may not occur, that is up to only one man. Below, I will explore why we need a change and how to start it.
"What is in a name", someone once said. Well I happen to think a lot. 27 years is a long time, and the Kansas City Royals have worn out their welcome as far as I am concerned. History is great and we would like to repeat some of it, but the most recent history is a bit of a problem. Kansas City baseball has a much more stellar history then the one the Royals have been providing. So, I propose a name change. A change that if properly done, will result in an increase in revenue for our hometown squad. A name that celebrates history, educates children and embraces a past that is far more important than some Rodeo or BBQ.
Our new team name..........The Kansas City Monarchs........... Yes, that is right. Think about the revenue MLB would make. Every game against the Monarchs will feature Negro League Uniforms. An increase in this exposure will result in a hugh increase in licensed products sales around the country. Since we are the reason for this, I believe we should be given a larger cut of the MLB licensed products pie. If we doubled or hopefully tripled our revenue in this area we could be looking at an additional 10-20 million towards players salaries. It is my belief that this name would also benefit in acquiring free agent players. It could be that some African American players would desire to play here due to the history. It would promote the musuem and increase travel to the Kansas City area.
In this competitive world we must think differently at times, everyone wants or needs something extra. This could be that extra that brings competitive baseball back to Kansas City. I realize it will not be welcomed by all. Many would object based upon their strong feelings of respect for the Royals glory days, but I say lets move forward, level the playing field a little and give us something to be proud of again in this wonderful city. Please, give feedback on problems or concerns?
