Is Luke Hochevar finally putting it together? After a rough start to the season which saw Hochevar put together a dismal 0 - 3 record with a 5.79 ERA, he was brilliant in tonight's outing against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Luke pitched 8 scoreless inning allowing 3 hits and no walks to go with 11 strikeouts in the Kansas City Royals 3 - 0 win.
"I think Hochy has finally figured it out," said Royals manager Ned Yost. "I knew it was only a matter of time. You don't have talent like he does without eventually putting it all together. This is a good reward for our patience with Luke. I am glad that we didn't give in to the pressure to get rid of a pitcher of this talent."
The Rays were off balance all night against Hochevar's wide array of pitches, managing 3 seeing eye singles and only forcing 83 pitches.
"The guy was devastating tonight," said Devil Rays star Evan Longoria. "When he pitches like that there's not much you can do other than tip your cap to the guy."
Yost continued, "I think Luke will be able to build on this outing and I expect him to be one of the better pitchers in the league the rest of the season."
