All the arbitration math aside
The Red Sox are paying market value for 2.8 WAR. I think Papi’s a good bet to match or beat that, even factoring in regression from aging and BABIP from the 4.2 WAR he produced last year. But if the Sawx get the short end of this deal, great.
FWIW, ZiPS has him at .266/.357/.498 with 25 HR in 2012, after his .309/.398/.554 line and 29 HR in 2011.
