Linsanity Validates Stat-based Projections
I came across this... it is eerily prescient and a reminder that wonderful nerds like those here on RR probably are better at projecting performance than many GM's (or at least ours).

The name of that song played at KC Comets games in the '80's was Giorgio Moroder's "The Chase." Now you know.
I remember the stat guys at Baseball Primer in the NBA thread mentioning Lin over a year ago
But the scout guys will say “YOU STAT GUYS ARE MISSING HIS HEART, HIS DRIVE, HIS HUSTLE. HE WON’T GIVE UP, THAT’S WHY HE’S SUCCEEDING!” Never mind that all the scout-types overlooked him, frankly, because he’s Asian-American.

Scouts felt he lacked...
…“presence” and the ability to “make things happen.”
The greatest moment of my childhood was when [insert name] did [insert insane thing].

I freaking love this Jeremy Lin story
It’s going to make me a Knicks fan even tho I can’t stand Melo.
His story is great
I can’t wait for his 30 for 30
Since 2005: Royals win% = .4100, Chiefs win% = .4095
Mitt Romney is a serial killer.

That's absolutely astounding...
I really hope he keeps up his performance. I worry about Carmelo Anthony’s return. I’ve always absolutely despised him as a player and I think a lot of the greatness about Lin comes from his ability to score. I’d hate to see him get less touches and become a less effective player.
Fun while it lasts
But the black hole known as Carmelo will likely zap the movement in the half court that Lin’s game requires. Lin and Steve Novak have been on fire this past week, color me doubtful that continues when the Knicks aren’t playing teams in the bottom half of the league in terms of defense.
Definitely needs to cut down on turnovers
And his defense is a bit suspect other than the steals. But overall, he’s a lot of fun to watch.

I don't have a doubt he has the ability to cut down the turnovers
He was really a PG in college and I highly doubt he was in High School. Also, when he isn’t asked to create as much offense for the team and force the action he should be able to make wiser decisions. The promising part, something that most failed PGs lack, is the ability to actually create the play and be a threat to finish it. As long as he is a starter, with his finishing ability, he should always be able to hover above the 7 APG mark.
He is fun to watch.
I’m just not sure how much to read into his production when you look at who he has played during this five game stretch. Jose Calderon level production might be his future, which would be quite good.
If Anthony Will
Move without the ball and pass occasionally, this could be a good starting five.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

That is asking a lot of Anthony.
Read a good article comparing Anthony to Paul Pierce at this point in their careers. Both were stubborn ball hogs who settled for bad shots too often and seemed to not care on D. Pierce turned into a more efficient scorer as he aged, maybe Anthony can too.
Lin looked good again tonite without scoring, the insanity continues.

Incredibly, The Scoring
Was well distributed and they shot over 50%. Lin was 4-6 with no attempted 3’s.

He got down to a 40% shooter overall when he was 26.
Has been in the 44-49% range since then until this season.

his first 4 years were right in line with his career averages

Two year blip, was at 41% the year before.
He did start well in his career, but those two years it looked like he was reverting into a Stephen Jackson-esque player. This season Anthony has looked like Pierce did during that two year blip. Anthony has a piece added to the team now that should help him, but he’ll have to change his game some to get the maximum effect of that new dimension on the court.
yeah...i dont see him adjusting...
what i do find interesting is how bad of a reputation anthony has….look at kobe’s numbers this year…he’s doing exactly what melo gets criticized for
