This would be a step backwards for MLB

PROs:
1. Has plenty of experience across many eras.
2. Is plenty healthy.
3. Was successful with several MLB teams.
4. Is a lawyer, so has the legal aspects in check.

CONs:
1. TLR is the most widely known micromanager in the history of the game. He literally thinks his decisions affect every nuance of the game. In a league position this could prove horrendous.

2. Has any manager ever benefitted more from the steroid era?

3. Worth mentioning the DUI, although a minor amount, he must be held accountable in comparison.

4. Hiring from within baseball’s steroid era by baseball’s steroid era’s Commissioner. Is there anything worse than this that screams, “We don’t give a damn about steroids. We don’t care if it ever gets cleaned up. The policies are in place, and let it be.” This would be like hiring Kenneth Lay in a governmental economic leadership position. (OK, I may be exaggerating here, but I think the point is made clearer.)

5. Continuous badmouthing of the MLBPA, seemingly with disconcern to the players individual and collective interests. (Which may be why MLB likes him.)

I am the one who knocks.

wait...an entire generation of baseball people shouldnt be hired by MLB

b/c they were around while steroids were? that’s crazy talk. I hate Larussa and your 1st reason and your 5th reason make alot of sense to me and seem like plenty reason enough to not hire him.

Your point is well taken...

It wasn’t quite what I was going for. I just think that TLR was very close to the steroid issue and ignored it, but afforded to keep his image while others were witch-hunted.

I am the one who knocks.

It is worth noting that...

1. His reported position would be in a research type role which the micromanaging would be fine, as long as great amounts of authority weren’t given.

2. I am fine with the athletes that did PEDs. I get it. But don’t like baseball’s flip-flopping on the issue.

I am the one who knocks.
