I came up with an idea today. Since David Glass has done such a poor job since buying the team of building a winner, Dayton Moore has had six years to build a team (And has been unsuccessful thus far outside of the farm system), and the front office management in the Royals organization has been so poor, then...
Why not rise up, raise a bunch of money, and buy the team?
Why not get as many investors as possible in a huge investing group (I'm not talking 20 people, I'm not talking 200 people, I'm talking something more like 20,000 people), and buy the team straight up from David Glass? We would get management who actually knows what they are doing, get Dan Glass out of the operation and actually manage the team like a modern successful team should be managed. If this were to go through, we would run it like the Green Bay Packers organization and put a council of Royals fans in charge of making big team decisions.
If I were to do this, my goal would be $600 Million. The Royals Net Worth is $394 Million, so that would be more than enough to buy the team.
If 30,000 people raised $1,000 each, 10,000 people raised $10,000 each, 500 people raise $50,000 each, 25 people raise $2,000,000 each, that would be $230,000. Say 10 people donate $6 Million. That would be $290 Million. Say we get 10 "mega-donors". Say 10 people want to donate $30 million or more. That's an additional $300 Million. We would have $590 Million, which is $10 Million away from the top goal.
It will be a challenge, but if it happens, it may be historic. What do you guys think?
