Jarrod Dyson is the first player in Major League history to be named "Dyson". He's made history. This is also fairly surprising, because Dyson is a fairly common name. Then again, only one NBA player has been so named, and only three NFLers. The more you know...
But Dyson is not hitting lately. At all. (This has to be the 800th time I've written those two sentences, in that way, on his blog.) This is not stunning, but it is a little disappointing, because he actually flashed a decent OBP for awhile.
- Jarrod Dyson's first 81 PAs: .304/.383/.362
- Jarrod Dyson's next 78 PAs: .194/.224/.222
At least Ned has finally moved him out of the leadoff spot. A month of a .224 OBP with no power? You might be a Royal.
I like Dyson as an idea. Well, as my idea. He's cheap, he's a zillionth round draft pick living the dream, the Royals aren't going anywhere. As Dayton Moore's idea, which is essentially, "he's fast so he can play baseball" he's a little more annoying. There's not even good evidence that he's good defensively.
He's done a brilliant job making Lorenzo Cain into a legend, however. Best farm system ever.
