Royals Trade Rumors: Francoeur Likely Available

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe speculates that Kansas City Royals outfielder Jeff Francoeur could be one of the more interesting players in the trade market and could fit into a lot of teams’ plans this summer:

Francoeur is an excellent defender with a strong arm and a right-handed hitter who would fit into a lot of teams’ plan. Wil Myers is on the way in Kansas City, making Francoeur expendable. The Royals, who believe they are in position to go for it, need pitching.

Francoeur, 28, has hit at a clip of .256/.293/.387 this season, down from his career .269/.311/.430 line. He's earned almost eight Wins Above Replacement for his career, with his best season coming last year when he produced a little more than two and a half WAR. But this season Frenchy's production has dipped and is currently hovering around negative two WAR.

Myers, 21, is hitting .317/.403/.653 in AAA Omaha this season, with eight doubles, three triples, fourteen home runs, and thirty-eight strike-outs in 200 plate appearances.

Kansas City has Francoeur signed through 2013, at $6M for this season and $7.5M for next.
