Sometimes feeling unlucky is better than feeling bad. Today the Royals lost to the team with the worst record in the American league, 2-1, at home. What struck me was the Royals' nine hits and only one run. Looking at the correlation between hits and runs, sure enough, the Royals had the worst gap between runs scored and runs expected from hits. But that's not fair, since runs and hits aren't correlated so well. Better to use OPS.

Sure enough, the Royals have the second worst gap between runs and expected, using OPS. The Nationals have it worse. Seems like an easy fix, the Royals just need Gonzalez, Strasburg, and Zimmerman.
Do you feel better?
