Royals trade target - Anibal Sanchez, RHP

So the Miami Marlins have pretty much fallen out of it and one would speculate that the Marlins might shop Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez amongst others. Sanchez is a 28 year old right handed pitcher with some impressive career numbers. Over 787.1 career innings, Sanchez has totaled a carrer3.75 ERA and 1.36 career WHIP.

Some concerning factors are his BB/K rate and the fact that he's never amassed 200 Innings as a starter.

His best season could be either of the last two seasons, as he's gone a combined 21-21 with roughly 196 innings per.

If the Royals manage to get something positive out of Guthrie, the Royals would have some seriously good starting pitching moving forward.

More after the jump....

The Royals would get better now, to hopefully build some momentum moving into 2013. We can predict that the Royals feature in some fashion:

Danny Duffy, Luke Hochevar, Jeremy Guthrie, Felipe Paulino, Anibal Sanchez, Everett Teaford and Luis Mendoza.

If we get a healthy Duffy and Paulino, that is the best collection of potential starters the Royals have had in quite some time. The Royals would likely be able to keep Odorizzi and promote Wil Myers, further advancing the level of talent in Kansas City.

Does anyone have any ideas on what a mid rotation guy like Sanchez would fetch in a trade? Could the Royals move Mike Montgomery and two mid level guys?

Another issue is that Sanchez will likely move from his current 8 million dollar salary to the 12-14 million dollar range...maybe more? He is a youngish right hander with good stuff and he is most certainly a big upgrade for the Royals.

His scouting report from SB Nation:

  • Pitches regularly in the mid-90s with a moving fastball that he can locate well. Also has a good curve and change. Has confidence in his ability to get batters out consistently.

I won't even post the flaws because it's obvious....control.

The end game here is that Royals are going to have pay at least two pitchers to provide stabiltiy in the rotation if they plan to take advantage of these young hitters. I think Anibal Sanchez in relation to market would be a reasonably affordable option, long term.
