I like to compare the runs scored vs the runs allowed, and sort them to see how I can play with our record. Because as we all know, both sides of the score have very little to do with each other. For the most part, you're going to score how ever many runs you score regardless of how many runs your pitcher has given up. Now I know what you're going to say, that in blowouts defenses let up a bit or bring in substitutions or whatever, and that's fine. This isn't an exact science. And I know that when home teams win they leave potential runs on the board in the 9th, sometimes not batting at all, because they don't need them.
However, this is still kind of interesting. Numbers time! 95 games into the season...
This is the score of every game so far, with the run differential. Not sorted yet.

Now I'll cherry pick the scores so that the Royals will win as many games as possible. If we had brought our best offensive games to every Sanchez start, the season could look something like this (I wish...)

I know you can do that with every team to make their records amazing. The Royals would be 74-21, but I'm guessing even the Twins would have 75 wins. So yeah this doesn't really tell us anything, more just for show. The next table shows the runs scored with the result of the game:

In that one, we can see that when the Royals scored less than 4 runs, they won 10 games that they probably "shouldn't have." However, when they scored more than 4 runs, they lost 14 games that they probably "shouldn't have," including an astounding 4 losses when scoring 8 or more runs. So how did our opponents do?

For our opponents, they won 8 games in which they scored less than 4 runs, and have only lost THREE games when they have scored more than 4 runs. So if you get to 5 runs against the Royals, you're 38-3. Nice.
So what does this all mean? (other than I have too much free time at work) I don't know. Maybe it would be interesting to see the runs scored compared to a pitching staff with a similar offense, like Baltimore or Tampa (only two more runs scored and one more game played) but I don't know, this is mostly because I was messing around. Let me know what you think!
