Matt Klaassen Explains How Well Basic Hitting Metrics Correlate

In today's essential reading, the artist formerly known as devil_fingers takes an updated look at the correlation of basic hitting metrics using data from 1955 through 2012. He does the same for metrics including batted ball classifications using data from 2002 through 2012 (the availability of reliable data only goes back to 2002). Not surprisingly, strikeout rate, home runs, walks, and power (ISO) correlate highly, while BABIP and batting average do not.
