The ZiPS projections for the Tampa Bay Non-Devil Rays were released today.
Of course, the most notable player on the Rays is SS Yunel Escobar, who is projected at 256/321/348, 294 wOBA, 2.5 WAR. Keep in mind that the Rays play in a home stadium that suppresses offense by something like 15%, so the raw numbers would look better for just about any other team in baseball (Royals included).
As for other notables, the Rays also have this Wil Myers kid who is about to be ranked something like the third best prospect in all of baseball, even though he does not have George Brett's seal of approval. Here is ZiPS projection for Myers: 253/317/444, .327 wOBA, 2.3 WAR. For a 22 year-old-rookie playing half his games in one of the worst offensive environments in baseball, that is not too shabby.
For comparison, Jeff Francoeur is projected at 261/3905/413, 303 wOBA, 1.0 WAR, and James Shields is projected at 4.11 ERA, 3.92 FIP, 99 ERA-, 95 FIP-, 3.2 WAR. Also, it is not letting me fix the formatting, so if anyone with editorial powers stops by, could you please insert a paragraph break or two. Thank you.
