Count me among the fans who consider the 2013 pitching success of the Royals a fluke. But VIRTUALLY EVERY PITCHER improved 2013 over 2012. That can't be coincidence, can it?
Here's a convincing hypothesis on where that improvement in pitching came from.
A better blocked-pitch ratio than Yadier Molina allows the Royals staff to throw outside the zone with confidence. If the author's analysis holds up, maybe the Royals aren't doomed to falling below 85 wins again and out of the playoff conversation.
