Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York reports that the Royals are among 8 teams that are interested in Johan Santana.
If you're a long-time Royals fan, you can probably remember the havoc that J. Santana reaped upon the Royals during his time with the Twins.
He is a two-time Cy Young award winner with the Twins (2004 and 2006), has multiple other awards including the Pitching Triple Crown in 2006.
He sports a career 3.20 ERA, an over 3/1 SO/BB ratio and has a career record of 139-78.
He has been plagued with shoulder issues for the past few seasons. He missed the entirety of the 2011 and 2013 years, and had a 6-9 year in 2012.
2014 will be his age 35 season.
The Mets declined his 25 million option for 2013, and Santana is likely looking for a 1 year deal to attempt to rebuild his value. It's expected that he will sign for a low base salary, but have incentives loaded into the contract.
What do you think? Do you think Santana would be a good bounce back candidate for the Royals to take a stab at? Would you be willing to spend 6/1 with million dollar incentives at 100, 150 and 200 innings pitched (I don't know what his expected contract would be, but probably somewhere in that neighborhood)?
