While the KC media and fan attention is turned towards the possible debacle that could be a Beltran signing, the A's are shopping started Brett Anderson.
The Royals had discussions previously about Brett Anderson, as he has sported very good numbers when he wasn't injured in the previous few seasons. He is due 8 million in 2014, and has a club option for 2015 of 12 million.
Brett Anderson is a LHP who, through 450.2 IP in the majors, sports a career 3.81 ERA (FIP3.52), a 109 ERA+, 7.1 SO/9, and an almost 3/1 SO/BB ratio. He will be entering is age 26 season next year.
Anderson is a risk, as he has a history of injury. He only started 5 games last season, and posted a career worst 6.04 ERA.
The A's are reportedly seeking bullpen depth in the trade.
This seems like a decent fit to me. A situation to acquire a starter with upside potential, a reasonable salary and the ability to trade from a position of depth.
Of course, I don't know that I like the idea of GMDM dealing with Billy Beane... Seems like, in a battle of wits, we all know who would end up wanting. And would Beane really be willing to take on Cool Stuff or Cool Hand?
