To the Ladies and the Gentlemen of RR (and to KCK [kidding man]):
I live in Bulgaria (as some of you know) and teach a class of Russian and Balkan kids English. One of their assignments is a presentation on a noun that defines them and makes up a significant part of their identity. Some asked if I could model this presentation for them, and having agreed to do so, I have decided to make my presentation on my identity as a Royals fan. I have my own ideas about what makes one a fan. I know that once upon time on this site, we had a thread about the qualifications of a "real" or "true" fan as opposed to bandwagonners. I will use some of this, but I'd also like to hear a bit from you all about what makes the mind and the soul of a Royals fan. To me, being a fan (especially of late) means patience and hope with the occasional fits of indifference and despair followed by more hope. And as always, this means a helluva lot of wit and sarcasm in the face of often bleak prospects (no pun intended).
Knowing full well many of you have been fans of this franchise for far longer than I have, I put it to you: What is it that (outside of owning some merchandise and attending or watching a game here and there) makes a Royals fan a Royals fan? I come to you all because I know we have some seriously dedicated fans here who are also wicked smart and damned good writers to boot. Help me out here; there might be a citation in it for you.
Thanks in advance for any help.
