Rest easy everyone, Luke Hochevar is now the newest member of the Royals bullpen. That guarantees that he will not be the fifth starter of the rotation this season. What a relief to all of Kansas City. Now the question remains, how much longer does he stay in the pen until we ditch him completely? Or will he succeed in a reliever's role? And now that Hochevar is gone, (whom I thought was the front runner for the last spot in the rotation)
who will they pick to hold down that fifth spot?
Who will it be? The two main candidates in my opinion are Bruce Chen and Luis Mendoza. Honestly, I could see either of them winning the spot. I won't have a problem with them choosing either of those guys. Then, if the guy they chose is struggling, they could always give the other a shot.
Also, Felipe Paulino and Danny Duffy will be returning around the All-Star Break, what does their roles become? I would like to see Duffy eventually take over the last starting spot because I think he has the most potential for improvement out of all of them. And at his age, we could have him for a long time.
Whoever it will be, at least his name won't be Luke Hochevar.
