OT: Interesting Kansas HS Basketball Afoot

In today's Class 4A state title game, undefeated Topeka-Highland Park meets undefeated Ottawa. Both enter the game at 24-0. In the state tournament, Ottawa won its first two games by 32 and 24 while Highland Park prevailed by 16 and 36.

Ottawa's led by Duke recruit and matchup nightmare Semi Olejeye, who averages 38.5 points a game and is growing at an astonishing pace (he was 6'6 on February 14, 6'7 on February 20, and 6'8 this morning). Olejeye holds the all-time and single-season Kansas scoring records. In the state semi-finals, Andale packed the lane and conceded the perimeter. Olejeye responded by scoring 21 in the first quarter, including three three-pointers, and 45 for the game.

Highland Park's no slouch. The Scots have three guys who play on Olejeye's AAU team and are coached by Ken Darting who's guided the team to four state titles including three in a row from 2007-2009. Judging by the staff photo, their athletics director may be the most interesting man in East Topeka.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6:15.
