Kansas City Royals offense batters Pelfrey in victory over Minnesota Twins

The Royals sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning and never looked back.

The Kansas City Royals offense came to life against Minnesota Twins starter Mike Pelfrey, chasing him after two innings in their 7-4 victory.

Kansas City sent all nine hitters up to bat in the first inning, scoring five runs in the first frame off six hits. Billy Butler and Salvador Perez both hit doubles as the first five Royals batters all reached base safely. Alex Gordon went 2-4 with a triple to lead the Royals, while Alcides Escobar, Lorenzo Cain and Butler all had multi-hit games. Every Royals starter except for Chris Getz all collected a hit against Minnesota.

Royals starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie did not have his best stuff, surrendering three home runs against the Twins, but only allowed four runs in 6.2 innings of work. Guthrie allowed six hits, striking out two batters and walking one. Tim Collins recorded the last out of the seventh inning and worked a scoreless eight. Greg Holland allowed three baserunners to reach, but allowed no runs and recorded two strikeouts in the ninth to earn the save.

The Royals curently sit in first place in the AL Central will go for their first sweep of the season tomorrow night. Wade Davis will start for Kansas City, while the Twins will send Liam Hendriks to the mound.
