Royals Minor League Transactions (6/16 - 6/22)

All the minor league transactions that occurred this week with the Royals:

Paulo Orlando (OF-Omaha-27): Activated from the 7-day DL on 6/18. Orlando is hitting .223/.286/.272 this year in Omaha.

Ryan Verdugo (LHP-Omaha-26): Placed on the 7-day DL on 6/18 retroactive to 6/17. Verdugo is 2-3 with a 4.71 ERA this year. Ryan was the "other pitcher" that came over when the Royals shipped Melky Cabrera to San Francisco for Jonathon Sanchez. He was a 9th round draft pick by the Giants in 2008, but has only made 1 major league start for the Royals last year.

Chris Getz (2B-29): Optioned to AAA Omaha on 6/22 after hitting .214/.276/.286 this year in 157 plate appearances. He did, however, finally hit a home run. Getz was the surprising casualty of Dyson returning from his rehab stint. Fun fact on gritty Getz: He led the AL in 2009 with a 92.59% stolen base rate.

AA All-Star team includes Orlando Calixte (SS), Angel Franco (2B), Santiago Garrido (RHP), and Mitch Canham (1B).

Leonel Santiago (RHP-23): Assigned to the Lexington Legends from the Wilmington Blue Rocks on 6/19. Santiago last pitched in 2011 in Kane County (Low A) where he was 7-7 with a 3.06 ERA. He originally came up with the DSL Royals.

Yowill Espinal (SS-22): Assigned to Lexington from Wilmington on 6/19. Espinal was struggling mightily in his 11 games since promotion, only collecting 3 hits on his way to a paltry .097/.125/.097 line.

Tim Ferguson (OF-24): Assigned to Wilmington from Idaho Falls on 6/19. Earlier this year in Wilmington, Ferguson posted a .344/.417/.500 line in 36 plate appearances. Tim was 2010 10th round pick out of Ole Miss.

Ben Tomchick (RHP-23): Assigned to Burlington from Wilmington on 6/20. Tomchick only pitched one scoreless inning at Wilmington after his signing last week.

Antonio Cruz (LHP-Wilmington-21): Placed on 7-day DL on 6/21. Cruz had pitched 30.1 innings this season, all in relief, and produced a solid 2.67 ERA. Cruz came up with the Tigers in the DSL and over parts of 5 minor league seasons has gone 11-12 with a 2.96 ERA.

Cory Hall (RHP-25): Assigned to Wilmington from Lexington on 6/22. In 36 innings of relief in Lexington this year, Hall had gone 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA. In parts of 3 seasons with the Royals, he's 6-4 with a 3.65 ERA. Hall was originally undrafted out of Santa Clara.

Colin Rodgers (LHP-19): Colin was assigned back to Lexington on 6/19 after a few weeks of work at Idaho Falls. In 9 starts with the Legends earlier this year, he was 3-3 with a 3.27 ERA. Rodgers with 3rd round pick of the Royals in 2012, and he was rated the #25 prospect in the system heading into this season.

Humberto Arteaga (SS/2B-19): Assigned to Idaho Falls from Lexington on 6/19. In 251 plate appearances, Arteaga had struggled to a line of .188/.214/.225 with the Legends this year. Arteaga was rated the #20 organizational prospect heading into the season and also the Best Defensive Infielder in the system. Now we just have to teach him to hit.

Alec Mills (RHP-Lexington-21): Placed on the 7-day DL on 6/19. Mills has had an outstanding season this year, posting a 2-3 record with 6 saves and a 1.59 ERA. He has struck out 47 while walking 9 and was named to the league AST. Mills was a 2012 22nd round pick out of the University of Tennessee at Martin.

John Walter (RHP-22): Assigned to Lexington from Idaho Falls on 6/22. Walter had pitched one inning in Idaho Falls before his call up, but last year at Burlington was 3-1 with 9 saves and a 2.63 ERA. He was a 2012 29th round draft pick out of Penn State.
