Royals Minor League Transactions (6/2 - 6/8)

Yordano Ventura (RHP-22): Promoted from NWA to Omaha on 6/3. Ventura was an undrafted free agent signed in 2010 by the Royals, and has since risen to a top prospect in the organization (ranked #3 by Baseball American this year). At NWA, he was 3-2 with a 2.34 ERA and 74Ks in 57.2IP.

Kelvin Herrera (RHP-23): Recalled to the Royals from Omaha on 6/4. Herrera was signed as an UDFA by the Royals in 2008. He struggled mightily with the long ball in his previous MLB stint this year, giving up 8 HR in 20 innings of work. At Omaha, however, he was strong in 4.2IP, giving up 2H, 3BB, and striking out 6.

Quintin Berry (LF-28): Signed by the Royals and sent to Omaha on 6/4. Berry was originally drafted in the 5th round by the Phillies in 2006. He's played for the Padres, Mets, Reds and Tigers organizations, but his only MLB service was last year with the Tigers. In 298 AB last year he went .258/.330/.358 with 2 HR and 21 SB.

Adam Moore (C-29): Optioned back to Omaha on 6/4 when Salvador Perez returned. Moore served admirably in his 5 games, going 3-10 with a double and a SB. In 2010, Moore was ranked as the #3 prospect in the Mariners' organization.

Louis Coleman (RHP-27): Optioned back to Omaha on 6/4 to correspond with Herrera's move. Coleman pitched 4.1 innings in his 4 games, giving up 3 hits, 2 walks and striking out 1. Coleman was a 5th round draft pick by the Royals in 2009 out of LSU.

Danny Duffy (LHP-24): Sent on a rehab assignment in Omaha by the Royals on 6/6. Duffy was a 3rd round 2007 draft pick by the Royals out of Cabrillo HS (CA) and has had 2 stints with the big club in 2011 and 2012. His combined MLB numbers are 6-10 with a 5.28 ERA, but his career minor league numbers are 27-16, 2.69 ERA.

Jarrod Dyson (OF-28): Sent on a rehab assignment in Omaha by the Royals on 6/6. Dyson was 50th round pick by the Royals in 2006 out of junior college. He seemed to be providing the spark the Royals needed at leadoff before his injury, where his splits over 18 games were .268/.286/.561 with 1 HR and 6 SB.

Paulo Orlando (OF-27): Put on the 7-day DL by Omaha on 6/7. Orlando was acquired by the Royals for Horatio Ramirez in 2008, but has only put up less than stellar minor league numbers since then. In 109 PA this year, he's hitting .216/.283/.258 with 0 HR and 3 SB.

Aaron Brooks (RHP-23): Promoted from Wilmington to NWA on 6/4. Brooks was a 9th round 2011 pick out of Cal State San Bernardino. In 10 starts at A+ this year, he was 2-3, with a 4.47 ERA.

Carlo Testa (OF-26): Released by the Royals organization (NWA) on 6/6. One of my favorite organizational names was drafted in 2008 (18th round, Belmont), but never amounted to more than filler. In 6 seasons he hit .273/.357/.454. In 13 games with NWA this year he struggled hitting .158/.304/.237.

Edinson Rincon (3B-22): The Royals claimed Rincon off of waivers from the Padres and assigned him to NWA on 6/6. Rincon had not played this year and was a casualty of creating roster space for Yasmani Grandal. Rincon has been ranked as high as the #10 prospect for the Padres in 2010. BA praised his ability to control the strike zone, work the count and ability to hit breaking balls. However, his defense was questioned heavily, and BA believed that he was destined to end up as a first baseman due to his lack of speed and poor hands. In 6 seasons he has hit .285/.355/.422

Brian Fletcher (LF-24): Activated off the 7-day DL on 6/6. Fletcher was drafted in the 18th round out of Auburn by the Royals in 2010. Fletcher has shown some promise in his 3+ seasons with the organization, hitting .294/.353/.489. Last year in A+/AA he hit .272 with 15 HR.

Juan Graterol (OF-24): Demoted from NWA to Wilmington on 6/7. Graterol was an UDFA in 2007 by the Royals. This season with NWA he struggled, going .190/.212/.302 with 1 HR. In his 6+ minor league seasons with the organization he has hit .255/.309/.307 with only 6 SB.

Spencer Patton (RHP-25): Assigned to Wilmington from Idaho Falls. Patton returns from a few days paper stay in Idaho Falls to continue his strong season (3-1, 1.49 ERA)

Colin Rodgers (RHP-19): On 6/6, Rodgers was assigned to Idaho Falls from Wilmington. Rodgers is a 3rd round, 2012 draft pick out of Parkview Baptist HS(LA). In 9 starts at A Wilmington, he was 3-3, with a 3.37 ERA. In 44 IP, he struckout 33 and walked 21.

In other news, Christian Binford (RHP-Wilmington-20) and Alec Mills (RHP-Wilmington-21), both were assigned to the South Atlantic League South Division All-Star Teams.
