Is this the Second Coming?

Eric Hosmer has 7 homers in his last 22 games, including 2 tonight to bring the Royals back from the dead. But really, are the Royals merely Lazarus to Hosmer's Jesus Christ? Signs from the Bible point to yes

So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.-Hebrews 9:28

Eric Hosmer arrived as Jesus Christ once in 2011. His arrival was triumphant. But the Royals were sinful, as the state of the organization for 25 years can attest. The coming was fantastic, but Eric had to live like the sinners. He toiled in 2012 like the sinner and died in April of 2013. Has he risen to bring eternal glory since late May of 2013?

Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. -Matthew 24:44

I think it's safe to say a lot of us thought Eric Hosmer was done, that the entire thing was a hoax. Did he ever even exist in the first place? We weren't sure.

On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.-Revelation 19:16

The Royals are naturally Kings. Hosmer as the King of Kings? Not even far-fetched. Perhaps they will put all-star patches on thighs some day? The name is already on the Royal robes.

Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. -James 5:7

Trust the Process. I get it. We were wrong.

And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. -Luke 21:27

Cloud of rosin exploding off the bat? Light tower power? To the fountains, when the fans were in their moment of despair? TWO dong hangings? Yes, it was, in fact, glorious.

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,-1 Peter 3:18

Eric suffered. As Danny Duffy would say, it was so obvious, his suffering, you guys. George Brett came, and his spirit changed, alive at last, you guys.

Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.-Revelation 1: 7

Everyone sees him all right. Those that pierced him? All of the unholy pitchers that made him suffer for more than a year? The tribes, specifically the racist Cleveland Indians? I would like them to wail on account of him. For a long time. Racists.

The author of this post is going to hell now, probably, but not before watching more baseball. "I would never say it can't get worse," said the great prophet David, better known as "Buddy" Bell. Words to live by, indeed.
