The Royals turn to Jeremy Guthrie to crawl back to within three games of .500 tonight. Way back when, Guthrie was a first round pick of the team he faces tonight.
In the month of June, Guthrie struck out just nine batters and walked 14, but still managed to go six innings or more in four out of five starts. He held the opposition to two earned runs or less in three of those starts. That is some combination of battling and good fortune. Jeremy has struck out five or more hitters in just 25% of his starts and is currently sporting the lowest strikeout rate of his career AND the highest walk rate.
Tonight would be a good night to buck the trend.
