The tenth week of The Dominican Summer League is over. The DSL Royals went 5 and 0, and are only a 1/2 game behind the first place Red Sox with 13 games to play. They even hit their third home-run of the year. It was also a pretty good week for the players I'm following.
Most of the 6 figure signing players I'm following have mostly stabilized lately. I don't see the star graduates similar to last year with Cristian Cano, Wander Franco, Brawlun Gomez, and top prospect Miguel Almonte. But, most likely Angelo Castellano and Emmanual Camacho will get promoted next year. Jose Martinez has a chance for promotion if his defense is good, although he could be blocked at Arizona by Martin Gasperini. The rest will probably start the year in the DSL again. However, quick promotion could follow if they start 2014 hot.
As a newbie to following the DSL, I find the profiles of who makes it from the DSL to be interesting.
The following players I will try keep track of this summer.
2011 signings: Emmanual Camacho (LHP) and Angelo Castellano (3B)
2012 signings: Julio Pinto (RHP), Alberto Saez (CF), Junior Reyes (LHP), Ofriedy Gomez (RHP), and Jose Martinez (SS)
Bonus DSL Royal of the Week Yunior Marte, age 18 (RHP)
Yunior Marte 6.18 K/9, 1.83 BB/9, 0 HRA, 0.69 ERA, 2.67 FIP
Now a look at the tenth week and overall stats. (I'm shifting to AB from PA since it is easier to keep track of weekly splits.)
Angelo Castellano Age 18, 10th week: AB 17, 5H, 2 2B, 4 BB, 3K, 1 SB, 1 CS, 5 RBI, 2 R
overall: BB% 11.9, K% 9.1, 702 OPS, ISO 053, 116 wRC+
He had a nice week with walks and a little power.
Jose Martinez Age 16, 10th week AB 15, 7 H, 0 2B, 3 3B, 3 BB, 0 K, 5 RBI, 5 R, 1 CS
overall: BB% 6.2, K% 9.0, 698 OPS, ISO 107, 107 wRC+
A monster week across the board for Jose. wRC+ went up 17 points this week.
Alberto Saez Age 16, 10th week AB 12, 2 H, 0 BB, 5K, 2 RBI, 1 R
overall: BB% 9.5, K% 22.2, 532 OPS, ISO 046, wRC+ 68
Considered Raw and a slow mover, he has fallen back after a hot streak that put his stats to average. The hot hitting from the others didn't get to Alberto as his struggles continued.
Third homerun of the year hit by the DSL Royals this week.
Julio Pinto Age 17, 10th week 5 IP, 1 GS, 4 K, 1 BB
overall 6.80 K/9, 3.88 BB/9, 1 HRA, 2.91 ERA, 3.65 FIP
Another good start for Julio this week.
Emmanual Camacho Age 18, 10th week: 0.2 IP, 1 GS, 2 K, 5 BB
overall: 7.14 k/9, 5.58 BB/9, 2 HRA, 2.68 ERA, 4.34 FIP
He had his first really bad outing of the year as he nearly doubled his earned runs allowed. On the bright side both his outs were strikeouts.
Junior (AKA Yunior) Reyes Age 17, 10th week 1.1 IP, 0 GS, 2 K, 3 BB
overall 8.38 K/9, 8.07 BB/9, 2 HRA, 3.72 ERA, 5.34 FIP
BB's have almost caght up to the K's again.
Ofriedy Gomez Age 17, 10th 3 IP, 0 GS, 2 BB, 2K
overall 6.53 K/9, 5.66 BB/9, 0 HRA, 2.18 ERA, 4.07 FIP
A good outing this week except for the walks.
I have not heard any news on how the Royals will spend the other $900K for IFA's. Smaykin Gonzalez is still available. Also, some players have yet to reach their 16th birthday.
