I don't intend to cause a needlessly heated discussion or argument with such a sensational "headline," but I figured it would lend more baseball fans to my "cause."
You see, a friend of mine is being an ass. He is trying to make me feel bad because he thinks it's something of an objective truth that SOCCER is better than BASEBALL.
"Nuance and depth of statistics aren't enough. I can appreciate a 500 ft home run, a flat-footed no-bounce laser from the warning track to home plate, or a perfect game, but baseball on the whole is a boring, mostly individual sport that doesn't require a great variety of physical skills."
Anyway, I want to beat him in this argument and make him feel small and insignificant, but I don't want to do too much research or soul-searching, as it were, to accomplish this.
That's where you come in.
How would you respond to his comments?
I was told to ask you that. I didn't want to get into an argument over what is purely a matter of taste, so I did this:
I can't post so here's my reply, if you want to post it for me.
"I don't want to get in multiple or back and forth pissing matches, so if Loose Seal wants to keep responding, his opinions seem fairly in line with my own from first glance. Certainly there is something that the highest-paid baseball players have that is very rare, as there is intense competition to be in that position. There's even more for top football players, but that's neither here nor there. I played baseball in to my early teens and football my late teens, and wasn't exceptional at either. In my experience it's very easy to be a serviceable baseball player playing once or twice a year, but nearly impossible as a footballer unless you trained intensively for 5+ year (which I did not). But, de gustibus non est disputandum.
The first two WC games of the day have been superb.
And I raise my j to the guy who responded with Lebowski."
