Royals Rumblings - News for October 15, 2019
Keith Law evaluates players in the Arizona Fall Stars Game, calling Daniel Lynch “electric” and praising Daniel Tillo.
Another Royals lefty, Daniel Tillo, was throwing 95-97 mph in relief earlier in the week, the hardest I’ve ever seen him throw across two years of seeing him regularly. His control is still an issue, but he has three pitches that all seem to come from exactly the same arm slot and release point. He has had no success as a starter in pro ball, not even missing any bats, but I can’t believe he won’t at least strike some guys out if he goes to the pen and throws this way.
Alec Lewis talks to Kyle Zimmer on what he needs to work on for next year.
But he’ll have to grow more consistent with both his approach and breaking-ball effectiveness, which he will be working at this offseason at home in Newport Beach, Calif.
“I have the confidence,” Zimmer said. “It’s a matter of staying consistent. That’s the name of the game.”
Consistency was the antithesis of Zimmer’s 2019 season. One week he’d be on a Southwest Airlines plane while playing for Triple-A Omaha working with pitching coach Andy Hawkins. The next week, he’d be on the Royals’ private plane and throwing side sessions under the watchful eye of Royals pitching coach Cal Eldred.
The common goal for the two settings: quit yanking his front side.
