Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers have decided to shut down pitcher Kenny Rogers for the rest of the season.
Rogers gave up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings in the second game of a doubleheader with the White Sox on Sunday. After the loss, the lefty met with manager Jim Leyland and it was there that the decision was made.
The skipper didn't give any specific reason as to why the 43-year-old will not pitch again this season, and even went as far as to say Rogers is physically fine. However, Rogers has struggled mightily in his last five starts, going 1-3 with a 10.22 ERA in 24 2/3 innings.
Overall this season, Rogers is 9-13 with a 5.70 ERA in 30 starts for the Tigers.
