Recap: Colorado vs. San Diego

Sports Network | September 16, 2008

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Ubaldo Jimenez threw seven solid innings and Chris Iannetta hit a grand slam to lead the Colorado Rockies to a 10-3 win over San Diego, in the second of three games with the Padres.

Jimenez (11-12) gave up two runs on three hits and three walks, and struck out nine in the win for Colorado, which has won two of three.

Iannetta had two hits, while Jeff Baker went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and double for the Rockies. Clint Barmes added two hits and drove in two.

Shawn Estes (2-3) took the loss after surrendering six runs on 13 hits and a walk in 4 2/3 frames for the Padres, who have dropped four of five. Adrian Gonzalez had a two-run homer.

Gonzalez's homer came in the first inning with two outs, and gave the Padres an early 2-0 edge.

But Colorado stormed back by plating at least one run in the third through sixth innings.

In the third, with runners on the corners, Garrett Atkins hit a grounder to shortstop that drove in the Rockies' first run. Then, in the fourth, singles from Baker and Dexter Fowler and a sac bunt from Jimenez put runners in scoring position for Barmes, whose double to left put Colorado in front, 3-2.

In the fifth, Iannetta singled and Brad Hawpe walked with two outs, and Baker followed with a three-run shot over the fence in left-center field. Iannetta's grand slam, made possible after Charlie Haeger walked the first three batters of the sixth frame, gave the Rockies a 10-2 advantage.

Drew Macias' sac fly in the top of the ninth for San Diego plated Kevin Kouzmanoff, and completed the scoring.

San Diego shortstop Luis Rodriguez left before the bottom of the second inning with a right triceps strain. He is day-to-day...Adrian Gonzalez's homer was his 34th of the season...Iannetta's homer was his 17th, while Baker hit his 10th of the year.
