New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Mets have informed first baseman Carlos Delgado that they will pick up his option for the 2009 season, according to a report in the New York Post.
The 36-year-old's option is worth $12 million.
Delgado finished the 2008 season with 38 home runs and 115 RBI to go with a .271 average, but his Mets missed the playoffs by a single game for the second straight year.
Also in the Post's report, the club is close to reaching an agreement on a two-year contract with manager Jerry Manuel.
These potential signings surfaced the same day that the Mets announced a three-year extension to keep general manager Omar Minaya in Queens through the 2012 season with club options for the following two campaigns.
