Recap: San Francisco vs. San Diego

Sports Network | August 23, 2008

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Tim Lincecum pitched eight shutout innings to lift the Giants over the San Diego Padres, 5-0, in the first game of a weekend set in San Francisco.

Lincecum (14-3) was stellar, throwing his fifth quality start in six outings -- with the one blemish coming when he was removed after 4 1/3 innings due to a knee injury. The Giants ace gave up four hits while striking out eight and walking three.

Keiichi Yabu pitched a perfect ninth to finish off the game.

Bengie Molina went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored and Travis Ishikawa hit a three-run homer to give the Giants their third consecutive win.

Cha Seung Baek (4-8) suffered his first loss on the road, throwing seven innings and allowing five runs on seven hits while fanning eight and walking two. Baek has now lost three consecutive starts despite going seven innings for the second time this year and the first time since June 14, a no-decision against Cleveland.

Luis Rodriguez went 2-for-3 and Brian Giles and Chase Headley added the other hits for San Diego, losers of five straight. No San Diego batter reached third all night as the team managed only seven baserunners all game.

The Giants ended the pitchers' duel in a big way, putting up five runs in the fourth. Emmanuel Burriss singled to lead off, and Fred Lewis doubled him over to third. Molina doubled home both runners for a 2-0 lead.

Two batters later, Pablo Sandoval singled to put runners at the corners, and Ishikawa blasted a three-run homer to left to put San Francisco up 5-0.
