Kurse of the K

One thing strikes me as a wierd conincidnce, the Royals have never really been competitive (except for the fluke 2003 season) since the ballpark was renamed Kauffman Staduim.  The years up to Ewing Kauffmans death, even though the Royals never won a penenant, they reamained competitive in their division.  Since the renaming of the Stadium, we have been mired in a sea of hopelessness.  Sure we have lost the hustle of Brett, the black hole that sucked up all ground balls in White's glove, the crack cocaine that fueled Willie Wilson in Center, the 'roids that enraged Bo to break bats over his knee, but we never failed to replace the greats.  We found Sweeney to play first, we found Damon and Beltran to play center, and who can forget Sherman "What's his name?" to take over for Frank at second.  The point I am trying to make, and quite poorly at that, is that we have been able to replace our great hero's of yesteryear with equally fantastic players, but without the same result.  I am sure there are many factors involved, such as team work, payroll, and free agency, but the coin has to flips heads eventually unless there is devine intervention.  Are we cursed, the curse of the K?  We dont have the legacy of the Red Sox, nor the fan base to make ESPN every year.  We are not cute and cuddly cubbies with hot ball girls.  We have no Harry Carey to drunkenly sing the seventh inning stretch song.  We are Royals, the hatred of political rebels for the past 1000 years.  And last time I checked America hates a monarchy.  Will we recieve the sympathy of the Red Sox or Cubs? No.  They were lovable with hardships that seemed to draw the fan base closer together.  Our hardships seem to drive fans away.  We have not put out an intentionally competitive team for a decade, we have missed the playoffs for the past 20 years, and we give away any decent players as soon as they prove themselves worthy of belonging in the Majors.  No one has sympathy for the organization that has no intention upon winning in the near future.  We are not lovable, we are not wronged souls, we are not a sympathy case.  We are kursed with the legacy of not having Ewing at the wheel, and he is angry.  Will we win a penenant in the near future? No, not as long as we are putting out the roll back specials.  Ewing wanted to bring great baseball back to KC, Glass is bringing the bargain basement value meal to KC.  Hell, I would curse the team myself if I were no longer living and someone had screwed up my legacy as such.  The Royals were not about Ewing Kauffman, they were about Kansas City, change the staduim name back to represent the reason why kauffman brought baseball to KC and watch the Royals win again.
