Rangers claim Mike Wood off waivers

Texas Rangers: Claimed pitcher Francisco Cruceta off waivers from the Seattle Mariners; claimed pitcher Mike Wood off waivers from the Kansas City Royals; designated infielder-outfielder Jerry Hariston Jr for assignment.

A bit sad to see Wood leave.  I did have some hope still that he would develop into a useful pitcher.  I remember him winning the game last August to snap the 19-game slide.

thats tragic
i always liked wood
i thought he was ready for league-average work from day 1
which he usually was

it was clear the new regime didnt much like him, especially since the old one barely did

sad news

fare thee well wood

yeah
he was a good middle reliever type. i guess they're trying to knock guys of the 40 man roster for Lubie, Maier, and Buckner......

i like the Murph
reminds me of a young Dale murphy, the 2nd best player in the NL in the 1980's behind Schmidt. Murphy was the man for the Braves. I grew up watching him be a one man show for the most part. Anyway, i don't think Donnie will be as good,  but he showed me something this season coming back from injuries and dominating in September. i hope we see him in AAA next season with Sanchez. Stemle will be gone, along with Bako and Dougie. Dohmann too..

I always thought Wood was one of those guys
that gave it 100% rather it was one inning or five.  Well we will face him next year and lets hope he is one of our rejects that turns into an allstar after the leave the K.

I have a feeling the 40 man roster will see a lot more changes before spring training.  Unfortunately, Bullrroa will still be there.

I thought Woody was one of Buddy's boys
Given how crappy the bullpen is this seems very surprising.  Wood was versatile and generally solid in long relief.  If they try to move Welle to rotation we will miss him.  Glad we cut Diaz, did we get anything else for Stairs?  That's one in the minus column for Moore.

Ken Ray?
Looking at the 40-man, when did this happen?  32 year old reliever with basically 1 year in the majors?  He broke in with the Royals in '99 appearing in 13 games with an 8.7 ERA.  Bonus points for anyone who remembers the Ken Ray experience.  What's going on here, Wood gone and now this?

here we go
it JUST happened...

10/12/06     Claimed RHP Ken Ray off waivers from the Atlanta Braves.

i like ken ray
i think he's better than Wood. He was overworked by the Braves last season, but he's an effective setup man when healthy. Wood at best is a long reliever or middle reliever....
