Around SBN: Hugh Douglas Admits To Stealing From Jaguars

What happened to this guy?

Moved from the Diaries...

Joe Dillon

He got hurt and ended up coaching in 2003, but then he came back and began to hit really well in AAA.  He had a brief stop with the Marlins in 2005 and then nothing in 2006.  He could be an interesting pickup for Omaha (and maybe a OF/1B/Sweeney-replacement for the Royals if he worked out) as I'm guessing he'd be cheap.

I like him
And we should not have let him go, but there is no room for him now. Gordon will play 3B in KC, Mike Aviles is probably your 3B in Omaha. Dillon can also play some 1B and OF, but we're filled up there too.

Interesting Player
but how many 1B/OF/DH's do we need.  If anything we need to shed some of these type of players not obtain them.

Trade value
He's a fairly cheap pickup and would have a lot more value for us in the OF than Sanders/Gathright.  If he doesn't pan out in the pros, no big loss.  If he does work, then we've got a big power guy that could be worth something at the trade deadline.

I like that thought process
although i' mafraid moore's probably more focused on trading away brown/sanders at this point

With the confines of Kaufman
being what they are, I still think we need a CF with enough speed to cover all the area.  Yes, we have DeJesus but what do we do when he takes his annual injury vacation.  Gathright is the only one on the team with that speed.   His defense is improving and if someone would teach him how to bunt for a base hit he may just develope into a decent backup CF.

We have enough corner outfielder types and it is scary to think that any of them would end up in CF replacing DeJ.   I agree with RR. that Moore is probably working hard to jetison both Sanders and Brown.

Lastly, I am a little down on any more cheap fixes.  Wasn't that our entire pitching staff last season?  Let's keep stockpiling arms and losing dead weight players and maybe 2007 will be better.  My glass is still half full.....
