New Contest: Postseason Predictions Contest

The Rockies and Padres are currently tied 5-5 in the 5th, so you might wanna hold off on your predictions until we actually know who will be in.

  1. Predict the winner of each round, all the way to WS champion.
  2. For the World Series only, also give a games total (ex. "Indians in 6") as a tiebreaker. You can make all the same picks through the WS winner as someone else, but once they claim a certain result, they have claimed it, and you need to go a different direction (i.e, Indians in 6 is claimed, so you need to go Indians in 7, etc).
There are no re-picks after each round. Each correctly chosen round champion will be worth 1 pt, with the highest possible total being 7 (4 DS, 2 LCS, 1 WS).

Whomever is closest will receive a free RR T-shirt!

American League:

NYY v. CLE
LAA v. BOS

National League:

CHI v. ARZ
COL v. PHI

Good Luck!

Update [2007-10-23 14:52:44 by royalsreview]:

The contest is now closed of course, but it might be fun to look back on the things we thought...

Not very smart picks made from the heart.
Cleveland humiliates the bastards from New York.   Yankee bastards.  Arod and Jeter both have a good cry on separate ends of the bench facing away from each other.  Damon forgets what team he is on this year and cheers until someone reminds him he happens to currently be a Yankee.  He then fakes a frown.  Clemons doesn't bother to come to the deciding game as he is not scheduled to start.  He says something about loving his family over the phone during the post-game ESPN feature.  He leaves open the possibility that his love for his family might be overcome next May by a figure no less than $20 million.

Angels make the self-involved Red Sox fans feel persecuted again.

Cubs defeat the Snakes.  Thank the lord we will not have to listen to Mark Grace's commentary in the World Series.  I did not know how much I hated Grace until I heard him talk.

Rockies are unstoppable and take down the Phillies.  It is ugly in the City of Brotherly Love.

Angels expose the Indians and advance.  The Angels know what they are doing.

Rockies and Cubs go seven.  Rockies survive.  Cubs fans are briefly sad, and soon thereafter drunk.  Many of them realize that it might be best that the Cubs lost as sadness gives the fans a thin layer of false identity and an excuse to be drunk.

Angels over the Rockies in five games.  The Rockies are a great story and all, but the Angels are a solid team.  The best team should win the World Series every year, except those years in which the Yankees are the best team.

Why would anyone pick the NL over the AL?
The AL is so much better than the NL this season.  I would pick any of the AL teams over any of the NL teams.  I don't think it is particularly close.
I probably disagree with you.

by NYRoyal on Oct 2, 2007 10:40 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Momentum
last year the Cards got hot at the right time, and this year no two teams are playing better baseball than the Phillies or Rockies.  Anything can happen in a short series.

I'll go with the talent
I'm taking bets, AL vs. NL in the WS if anyone is interested.

The thing is,
anything can happen in a play-off series. See also: Cardinals over Tigers, circa 2006.

Gotta do it
Yanks beat Indians
Angels beat BoSox

D-Backs beat Cubs
Rox beat Phils

Angels beat Yanks
Rox beat D-Backs

Rox miraculously win the World Series over the Angels in 5 as they steal Game One in LA and roll to three straight victories at home which simultaneously causes me to lose my job from coming into work late and hungover and leaving early to catch the next game.
