BOY: Boyfriend of the Year....2007 edition?

Okay, so here's that nifty post I was talking about a few months back. And it's probably early right now, but...well, you can deal with it.

my inspiration bat girl has the Boyfriend of the Day set up in this sort of manner, and I'd like to see who's up to the challenge.

For those of you who are just now joining us for the 2007 season, I welcome you and offer you an explanation of what exactly a Boyfriend of the Day (or BOD) is. Each win the Royals manage to rack up on the board, I, the amazing and wonderful....loyal person....will pick a BOD based on the team's performance and what they brought to the plate/mound. If a player does well, but not well enough to be the BOD, they will be the Smitten Kitten of the Day (SKD? not as catchy as the others...). The player who gets the most points (2 for BOD, 1 for SKD) by the end of the year will win the Boyfriend of the Year (or BOY). Last year, I believe it boiled down to Mark Teahen as BOY and Ryan Shealy in a close second, winning the title of, you guessed it, Smitten Kitten of the Year (SKY. aw, look how that one turned out!)

Now, what about all those days where they..ahem, Royally Screw Up? Well, don't worry! We used to have a Scrub of the Day (SOD), but that title was perpetually given to Angel Berroa as my gift to him, free of charge.

Okay, so here's what I want for this year. Everyone pick their golden boy(s) starting right now. As the season progresses, not only will the players get points, but you will get points. The participator with the highest amount by the end of the season will...get something cool that I haven't worked out yet. If you'd like to wait until the end of Spring Training to see who makes it, feel free.

And since I am amazing and this is my schindig, I get to choose first. And, with that, I pick my two favorite players (my dad can vouch for this), Zack Greinke and Mark Teahen.

*also, for those of you that are tempted to go with a pitcher...they don't play that much (starters at least), so they won't have as many chances. Not always the best to pick, but my love for Senor Greinke is too strong for me to deny him. So, if you choose a (potential) starter, make sure you pick a field player, too.

May the best fan win!

DeJesus
Easy choice, yes.
But hey, something's gotta be easy.

don't worry
I went for double easy. I'll try not to be biased to Mr. T or Zack Attack, either...just for the record.

Buck
He's also one of your favs, and he's gonna be pushed pyschologically this season (according to GMDM) so he should hit 40 HRs.

I'll take Gordon
And I guess Greinke, if we have to choose a pitcher.

I'll take
Joey Gathright. We get extra points for weak ground outs, right?

Berroa
I got to go with my boy...
Also, I think berroa should get bonus points for each BoD he gets just for all the crap he has to take.
I can actually wear my Berroa jersey where I live without getting heckled

Berroa
only made smitten kitten...once >.>

I'll try to hold back my berroa hatred.

Then again, I've found that a lot of his good days come when we're losing anyways, so...

Surprise
I'm taking Mike Sweeney. He was blessed by the friggin' pope and he's playing for a big contract on the west coast next year. I see big things.

Okay....
I am taking Grudz and Shealy. I was tempted to take Dotel, because he will have over 40 saves this season.

I am working my tail off so I can free up my week at Spring Training.  After listening to the weather report I wish I was in Surprise right now buying Bobby Mac. a beer and asking him how it feels to have a semi-real pitching staff.

Let's go crazy here....
I'm going with Jason LaRue and Reggie Sanders...

If this was a betting pool, I'd give you guys my money now and not look back.

Since all the good ones are taken
I'll take my same picks for Royals who will unexpectedly have great years from a few days ago:  John Buck and Odalis Perez.

(Hey, winning's not everything)

Just seeing that picture
makes me wish we could magically skip forward five weeks in time.

As far as this "contest"

I'll go with Mark Teahen as BOY and Alex Gordon as SKY

The season
Will be here before you know it. And speaking of...I think I'm going to have to skip out of the first few home game Sundays, because I'm teaching the lesson in one of the meetings. So. I propose that we meet at Grandma's house on Friday afternoon and you proceed to transport me to the stadium.
