batting order!!!!!!!!

1.)DeJesus CF
2.)Grudzielanek 2B
3.)Sweeney DH
4.)Gload 1B
5.)Brown LF
6.)Teahan 3B
7.)Sanders RF
8.)Buck C
9.)Berroa SS

THIS WOULD BE A PRODUCTIVE LINEUP. YOU ALL ARE PROBABLY SAYING, "GLOAD HITTING 4TH?" THAT'S BECAUSE NONE OF YOU HAVE A CLUE HOW GOOD ROSS GLOAD IS. TRUST ME, IF SHEALY PLAYS, HE WILL SUCK. GLOAD IS GOING TO BE AN ALL-STAR THIS YEAR, MARK MY WORDS.

You only got 5 of the 9 starters right!

Gordon WILL be playing 3B on April 2nd, and Teahen WILL be in RF, Sanders may not even be on the roster by then.

Nothing against Gload, but his versatility in being able to play the OF probably means he will start most games on the bench, with his chief duty to spell a RH outfielder or Shealy or Sweeney only occassionally. In addition, he will be the primary PH vs right handed pitchers, while German should serve a similar role vs left handed pitchers.

You just earned yourself a C-
You get an A+ for your previous post, though.

Gload
joel,

do you really see Gload as a cleanup guy? I see him more as a #2 hitter

To clarify
Gload = Matt Stairs, with a better glove, more versatility, slightly less power, and perhaps slightly better OBP skill.

Barring any catastrophic injuries to Shealy or one of the corner OFs, I forsee about 250-300 PA for Mr Gload.

Don't get me wrong - glad to have him on the team, it sure upgrades our bench significantly.

I COULD SEE SECONG TOO...
GLOAD COULD HIT IN THE 2 SPOT, BUT HE HAS THE POP TO GET RBI'S HITTING CLEANUP...TRUST ME

Right you are Loyal
DeJ
Grudz
Teahen
Sweeney
Brown
Gordon
Shealy
Buck (we'll see)
Berroa (ugh)

They'll want protection behind Gordon.

BB has already announced 1-4
exactly as chukar shows. He may bat Shealy 5th and Brown 7th; I've posted elsewhere that I believe it will only be a short time before Gordon is batting 5th, providing protection for Sweeney! That will also restore the LRLRLR symmetry for the first 6 lineup spots (and for nearly the entire lineup when Gload spells Brown or Shealy on occasion and bats 7th).

I'm OK with BB easing Gordon in by batting him lower in the order at the start - I'm assuming he will see the light fairly quickly when it becomes obvious that Gordon is a bigger offensive threat than either Brown or Shealy and move him up to 5th then. At what point could that be? Well, I'm not normally optimistic about the Royals, but I'd be shocked if this doesn't happen by Memorial Day. That would be about a third of the way into Gordon's rookie of the year campaign, and by then, surely BB will realize the kid can handle the five hole.

Let's hope that happens
Wow, Teahen Sweeney (eventually Butler) Gordon is on par with the mighty 03 combo Beltran Sweeney Ibanez.

I really like Gload as a backup as well, with about 250 ABs, though I question whether it's worth it to keep the younger guys in AAA. Shows that DM is determined to win this year.

by chukar on Feb 28, 2007 5:20 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Gload is a role player
And thus he's used to spot duty. It'd be kind of counterproductive to bring Butler up and sit him on the bench.

Right, but I'd rather have
Costa/Gathrigt/Maier, get those 250 ABs if we're only going to win 70 games anyway. Still, I agree Gload makes us better this year, and will be useful next year if we are competing.

Maier
Is he supposed to be any good? He appears to inhabiting one of the rare holes in my pervasive baseball knowledge.

Maier
Good defense, can play CF, middling power maybe 15 hr type, comparable to DeJ I'd say.  Probably needs a year in AAA (hasn't been there) but he spent 3 years in college and will turn 25 this year.

Maier
would be a good one to trade to a team like the Marlins, who are stocked in pitching talent and let him be their everyday CF.

my ideal lineup
1.Dejesus CF
2.Grudzelanek 2B
3.Teahen RF
4.Sweeney/Sanders DH (Sanders= DL insurance)
5.Gordon 3B
6.Shealy 1B
7.Brown/Butler LF (bring him up at trade deadline)
8.Buck C
9.Clint Barmes(by trade,of course) or Angel Sanchez SS

This would be my ideal lineup. Spin Emil at the deadline and probably Sanders too. Then, bring up Butler and Maier/Lubanski to get a taste of the "Show".

Just one thing...
Clint Friggin' Barmes?

How can he be any worse
Berroa sucks and I can't think of any other decent shortstops that could be available. I'd really like to pull off a deal for Freddy Sanchez of the Pirates (he's a free agent after this season) and lock him up to a long-term deal. But, I don't know what the Pirates would want. Justin Huber and Mitch Maier maybe?

Sanchez plays third most of the time
Though he's the kind of guy who looks good enough in the field to adjust. When he came up briefly with the Sox, he struck me as a very solid defensive player. Seeing him light it up at the plate last year was cool as well.

Other shortstops...isn't Carlos Guillen a FA at the end of this year? Or am I hallucinating? Orlando Cabrera looks like a candidate to be moved, given that he's going to be blocking Brandon Wood soon.

Have to go
Orlando Cabrera on this one.  Clint Barmes can't hit in Colorado.  COLORADO!!!  If he can't hit in that hitting inflated environment, how is he going to do so in KC? Orlando Cabrera would at least provide solid D and a better bat than Berroa would provide.  Carlos Guillen, even Omar Infante from Detroit would be an interesting acquisition as well.

Cabrera/Wood
NHZ, I believe the Angels are toying with moving Wood to 3B this season. Not sure if that's a done deal yet, but I recall reading somewhere that they might do this. Not sure how that ties into their long-term plans...

by loyal2s dad on Mar 1, 2007 11:01 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Erick Aybar
would be another possibility.  The Angels have a lot of depth at middle infield and might need an outfielder with Juan Rivera hurt and an aging OF.

I believe BA had an post saying he was going to 3b for the short term as it was a team need. He is still considered the ss of the future for them however.

I think we have gone over this before in other posts, but the angels always seem so reluctant to trade anything. i see any deal with them as unlikely, although its not a bad place to at least look given their depth.

I can actually wear my Berroa jersey where I live without getting heckled

He would be a good choice,
but I don't think that the Cubs need that much OF help.  The Rangers might be a possiblity for a trade for Joaquin Arias.  They were rumored to be interested in Emil before.  Ryan Theirot would be a nice choice from the Cubbies as well.

Blah
Cedeno is the new Angel Berroa. Aybar would be a much better option; I forgot about that guy.

Cedeno is a joke
I agree with that. But Orlando Cabrera? Yeah, he's better than Berroa, but he's not a really young guy. He's not all that cheap either. Guillen is too expensive and injury prone. I like the Joaquin Arias idea, though. I'd go for that. The Rangers have locked up Michael Young and they're looking to lock up Kinsler(I'd love to have this kid. Tremendous upside). So, how would we convince them to trade Arias? They always want pitching. Would we be willing to part with a pitcher(Elarton?) and Emil? I'm not sure that they would take that. It would probably have to be a young pitcher. Who's this kid in A ball that can't stay healthy that we have? They say that he can flat out rake.

Arias
No way. Look at the guys BB/K numbers and get back to me. Makes Angel look good at the plate.

Assume you are talking shortstop?
If so, it's Jeff Bianchi (the guy we picked after that Gordon dude).  Two years in rookie ball, two years of injury (shoulder and back, if memory serves).  Plus, he projects as a second baseman.

arias has problems
but his raw talent is impressive. I still say Clint Barmes could be a better option than Berroa. At least the kid can take a walk.

Nice
Bianchi will be a supreme talent, if he can stay healthy, but right not thats a big if.

a big if ... I wonder if one of the 2B
at Idaho Falls could be moved to SS.  Either Mertens or Maddox should be better than Bullrroa.
