Five Fun Facts About Ben Hendrickson
As thedude925 has already ably pointed out the Royals picked up Ben Hendrickson from the Brewers yesterday, in exchange for our beloved Maxim St. Pierre. (Hendrickson stats here)
To commemorate this wonderful day, I present to you:
Five Fun Facts About Ben Hendrickson
1. Ben Hendrickson is not Mark Hendrickson. Mark Hendrickson is that tall guy who has been given 120 career starts, all to prove that yes, a tall guy can still post a 4.98 career ERA. Ben Hendrickson is only 6'4. Mark Hendrickson is 6'9. Ben Hendrickson has made 12 big league starts. Ohh, how different life can be, if for another five inches!!
2. At the Major League level, Ben Hendrickson has faced the illustrious Tony Womack more than anyone else, with Womack going 2-8 with two singles. Our own Reggie Sanders has faced Hendrickson 6 times, going 1-6 with a single.
3. Hendrickson was born in St. Cloud Minnesota, and is the sixth Clouder (the name I just made up for St. Cloudians) to make the show. The last Clouder to play in the Majors was our own Jim Eisenreich.

With the local hottie and future really rich guy on board, the Royals just gained some fans at the Delta Phi House at St. Cloud State.
4. With the Brewers, Hendrickson hit .105/.150/.105 in 20 PAs, making him as likely to draw a walk as Tony Pena Jr.
5. Ben Hendrickson is also not the As the World Turns actor Benjamin Hendrickson, who killed himself in 2006.
(moment of silence for Benjamin Hendrickson)
Thank you.

If you could get by in major league baseball with just a curve ball Ben would be dominant.
Unfortunately. the 88 MPH fastball doesn't really get it done.
A move to the bullpen is in order.
Also, like what you guys are doing with JDLR, i really think he's going to put it all together sometime soon.

yeah
he's a power lefty with 4 plus pitches who has not yet turned 26. power lefties take a little longer to develop with command for some reason. and he's fiery, i love that.
he was misused in Milwaukee, our manager believes that allowing pitchers to implode builds character.
here's my write up after the trade:
http://brewcrewball.com/story/2006/7/26/114713/584
he's out of options (does that reset) so they had to keep him on the 25, and Yost carried 13 pitchers so he wouldn't have to use him.
he just needs to go out there every 5th day and throw 6 innings. he'll put it together by the all-star break. i'm certain of it.

i'd be happy
the number of hitters he catches looking when he is on is disturbing. that slider, my god that slider, it buckles my knees just watching.
he's frustrating because he doesn't recover, when things go bad, they go really bad. much easier to deal with out of the bullpen when you aren't expecting 6 innings work.

Life in St. Cloud
I've actually been to St. Cloud. I had a friend who studied in Collegeville MN. (spelling?) which is just outside of St. Cloud. My wife and I went to St. Cloud to shop while we were there and our cashier spoke just like Margie in the movie "Fargo." Yep, youbetcha. I liked it so much I told my wife to go buy something else so she also could hear her talk. Good times.

RR, hope we didn't embarrass you with your colleague Al too much. Felt like we were the kids that terrorize the neighborhood and spoil their parents' reputation when they're away from home. I thought about this as it was happening, but Al proved to be an irresistible target (Billy Brewer was classic). Seriously, I have no idea how the politics of the whole SB nation work, but I hope we didn't damage any relationships on your end. Hopefully Al recognizes it was all in good fun, and he learned a small lesson about disparaging downtrodden franchises on the eve of a new season.

If you feel the need to mock someone
He recently wrote in his blog about how he was excited about how much Teahen has developed, and how he thought he would make great strides at 3rd Base this year.
Then, when one of his readers pointed out that Gordon was at 3rd, he predicted that Teahen would be great in left field this year.
When someone pointed out that Teahen was playing right field, the Adopt the Royals guy made a vow to discontinue his blog and never write again.
Or, at least that's what I wished he'd do. Instead he just made some lame excuse along the lines of how the Royals are making so many decisions this spring it's hard to keep up.
What a maroon.

marbotty, this exchange is priceless, thanks for
Blog guy:
"Also, the more I look at 3B for the Royals, the happier I get. I really think Mark Teahen is going to continue to improve. I think he's going to be a cornerstone(no pun intended) for the team."
Does the pun refer to 3B, makes it even better.
He only got 1 comment, seems everyone just tuned him out at that point:
"You realize Teahen isn't at 3B anymore, right?"
Blog Guy:
"So disregard that Teahen at 3b remark. Sigh. He's at LF, which is near third I guess. Sorry about that."
Only Comment:
"Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Teahan is actually going to be the starting Right Fielder on Opening Day and he's been playing in CF filling in for DeJesus as he recovers from the mysterious "stomach ailment."
Blog guy:
"So Teahen is listed at LF on some sites, RF on others. A reader said he's going to be in RF, so I'll defer to him."
So he had a 2/3 chance since he could've gone with CF or RF and been ok, but he still blew it. Is he even looking at the box scores? Someone at the Star needs to be notified and put an end to this embarrassment immediately. I get that it's intended to be a fun fan thing, but he's holding himself out as knowledgeable and apparently didn't even know that Gordon is on the team. Feel sorry for him, but geez, put in a little effort.
