Game 20 Open Thread- White Sox (10-8) at Royals (6-13)

On a possibly rainy night, the Royals look to avoid being "swept" by the White Sox tonight at the K. If anything else, the prospect of Tee Shirt Tuesday should be exciting. Making the start tonight is the bounty of the Burgos trade, Brian Bannister. Sayeth Buddy:

"From all the reports we've gotten, Bannister's been throwing good," Kansas City manager Buddy Bell said. "We're putting Ducky in the bullpen just to give us a little more experience down there. We're really young in the bullpen, so it just made sense."

Yea, but Buddy, the young guys are the only one's worth a damn.

For more Buddy quotes, check out NYCRoyal's post.

The White Sox send Javy Vazquez (2-0, 2.50 ERA) arguably one of the most maddening pitchers of the decade.

According to BP's Playoff Odds Report, if you simulate the rest of the season one million times, the Royals storm back to take the division 4% of the time. We're in a pennant race boys! Huzzaaa!

I feel a 500 comment Game Thread coming on. Lets do this!

This is as good a time as any to note that there is no Spreadsheet Baseball this week because I've spent the last three or four days dying of sinus headaches. Damn pollen to hell.

by NHZ on Apr 24, 2007 7:04 PM EDT   0 recs

Parts of Maine
Thispart is 50 degrees and sunny. Which doesn't help a sinus headache at all.

Just Info
In case the game is rained out and you want to watch former Royals.  Mark Redman is pitching for the Braves on TBS.

RR, what were the odds of the
British defeating the "Spanish Armada"? It's time to start buying playoff tickets folks!!!

by royaldaddy on Apr 24, 2007 7:19 PM EDT   0 recs

le sigh
I'm going to be so late to the game. It's not even funny. Waiting for my friend to hurry it up and  call me so we can go.

Lets go Royals
this better be worth skipping psych class. As long as we are in it for at least three innings I'll be happy.

Since we're such a forward thinking,
Sterger-awake site, and RR submitted Scarlet Whatserface as a possible Sterger figure (hee hee, I'm so clever), I'll link this. Turns out not all bloggers live in their mother's basements (A Dan Shaughnessy opinion).

I think we should interview her.
Just because...uh...she...knows baseball! Yeah, that's it!

I'm not willing to give
up on Amber Theoharis just quite yet.

by wildthang on Apr 24, 2007 8:06 PM EDT   0 recs

a woman like
that needs no blog.

Well yeah,
but you've got to admit, it's a plus.

fine.
but barely.

by wildthang on Apr 24, 2007 8:11 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm not trying to dissuade your love...
...for Amber, I'm merely pointing out that Ms. Milano comes off as even more attractive given here baseball interest. I think that's what slayor was saying too. :P

by NHZ on Apr 24, 2007 8:13 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Milano easily
Scarlett Jo would give her a run for the money, maybe take the cake.

This would make a fun diary
who are your favorite women?  Loyal 2 might not like it, but it'd be fun.

Actually, the machoism might get to her.

That was inevitable
I saw the Fantastic Four because 1. Our movie theater is five bucks max. 2. 'The Thing' is awesome. 3. Jessica is in it.

Not necessarily listed in any meaningful order. ;)

I prefer the in the fleshness of Ms. Theoharis. She has to be perfect, and she is. There are no retakes, its all the line, no photoshop, no editing, nothing.

Theoharis lays it on the line every night.

You're entitled to your opinion...
...even if it's wrong. :P

by NHZ on Apr 24, 2007 8:14 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Why is the game delayed?
I'm about 30 mins from the stadium and it hasn't been raining, is it pouring out there or what.

by slayor on Apr 24, 2007 8:10 PM EDT   0 recs

Wow Fantastic
the only two games I'm really interested in right now are in rain delay. God.

by wildthang on Apr 24, 2007 8:12 PM EDT   0 recs

They look at radar
and if something else is coming, they'll likely wait it out.

by royaldaddy on Apr 24, 2007 8:14 PM EDT   0 recs

On cue, lightening and rain starts...
...I don't think this game will be played tonight.
winning records follow good bullpens

by slayor on Apr 24, 2007 8:14 PM EDT   0 recs

actually, according to the radar
the prospects of getting this game underway look promising. After this short little burst, the next system is out in western Kansas. We might get, at least, 7-8 innings in.

by royaldaddy on Apr 24, 2007 8:23 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

The way our bullpen is..
If we could get a lead through six, and get it called, hey, great.

by slayor on Apr 24, 2007 8:24 PM EDT   0 recs

I think we could reach 500 comments
without a game, personally. I mean, this Scarlet-Alyssa-Amber-Jenn? debate could get out of hand.

by NHZ on Apr 24, 2007 8:26 PM EDT   0 recs

Side note
It sure is looking like a good idea that the Royals didn't resign All-Star Mark Redman.  Got hammered again tonight.  He's not even giving them innings.  At least Perez is giving us something.

Sorry for this but I'm really really excited
UCLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO ONE IS HOME RIGHT NOW!

I HAVE NO ONE TO TALK TO!!!!

Or do you just randomly yell out four letters sometimes? :P

Okay so my ex girlfriend looked just like Alyssa
Milano and with a much better body. And had she not been stir-f'ing nuts and a pain in the a$$ every single day as if she was making me pay for dating such a hottie, it would have been great. Instead, it actually kind of sucked.

by balto on Apr 24, 2007 9:19 PM EDT   0 recs

Guess we can think of this as our Spring Training
for the first set of games on the West Coast that are coming up.

anybody else's
GameDay look different than normal? Specifically the pitch-by-pitch thing?

by powderbluepower on Apr 24, 2007 9:59 PM EDT   0 recs

Yep
That pitcher/batter thing will take you to the "Archives" of the gamecenter, so you can look at the AB in depth.

It sure is a good thing
we have a fresh bullpen..oh..wait.

Check that..good thing Duckworth, Welley and Soria are rested.

I am a total noob at this Royals Radio stuff
But there's no way to listen to a radio feed of the game live, besides paying MLB.com a bunch of money and probably getting blacked out for the privilege, is there? I'm in KC's radio area, but the radio I have here gets bad reception and you have to hear equal parts Denny and buzz.

by Garth on Apr 24, 2007 10:10 PM EDT   0 recs

You can listen on 97.3
I believe that is the FM frequency. Or on the 810whb website, as they usually forget to shut the feed down.

GameDay thoughts
I do like the new GameDay's pitch-by-pitch box in the lower left hand corner, but they're not showing pitcher release points anymore -- or is that only in certain ballparks?

by Garth on Apr 24, 2007 10:12 PM EDT   0 recs

yes...
i believe it's only in certain stadiums, the K not being one.

by Billex Gordler on Apr 24, 2007 10:13 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

it sure is nice...
having a leadoff hitter who has a clue.  dejesus isn't the best player in baseball, but gosh he's a pro.

by Billex Gordler on Apr 24, 2007 10:12 PM EDT   0 recs

(sorry to keep jacking this thread...
but if the 810whb.com feed isn't doing anything -- it is streaming nothing -- for two minutes, that means there's no Royals game to be had there, right?)

by Garth on Apr 24, 2007 10:16 PM EDT   0 recs
