Game 52 Open Thread- Orioles (23-27) at Royals (19-32)

The Royals look to reverse their recent misfortunes in a Memorial Day matchup against the Baltimore Orioles.

Appropriately enough, the Royals will square off on Monday night against Steve Trachsel (3-3, 3.77 ERA) who proudly served his country in the Korean War. Luckily, Buddisimo Bell fully understands why the Royals fell back to Earth, and has a game plan ready to stop the bleeding:

"The last four games, it sounds like we're talking about the same game," manager Buddy Bell said. "Not enough pitching. Not enough offense."

Step one in Bell's Plan For Victory (notice the date) involves Lamar Colorado's secret weapon, the Self-Appointed Team Effort Inspector, Scott Elarton (1-0, 6.00 ERA). In fourteen career starts at the K, Elarton is 1-5 with a 6.13 ERA.

Hmm... Elarton and Trachsel? This might be a four hour game.

We have now played one game over 50
of which 19 were victories.  We have 31 games left till the season is half over.  Do we wait till then to make changes?  Do we ride along with a dismal record and team and just pretend things will get better?  Will tonight be another game of futility with the big E. going less than 5 innings and giving up a couple more homeruns to add to his 15.

When does GMDM throw in the towel and make some changes to fit his master plan?  Or is this his master plan another year or two of futility telling us that we will be better in the future?  Until the Walmart men get tired of losing games and fans and fire him for another GM who thinks he has a clue.

Yup, this is negative.  But, I am wondering when do the Walmart men realize that they aren't getting their money's worth out of either GMDM and Buddo. Something has to change we can keep going 1-22 in the first six inning of every game.  I watched Seattle slap us around in the last series and wondered what is their hitting coach doing that ours isn't?

You can talk all the numbers you want but the only number that means anything is the win column.  Nothing else matters and nothing else will produce income for the business of baseball.

I was very positive about this team after seeing them in spring training.  But, since then I have seen the same shoddy play and the same stupid management that I saw all of last year.  We are still fiddle farting around like we have the last few years.  So, you want positive... until GMDM gets off his dead ass and actually makes a move...then and only then will I be positive about this team.

by grudz69 on May 28, 2007 5:38 PM EDT reply actions

Hang on, hoss
By my count, the only winning pitchers we've got right now are arms GMDM brought in:  Meche and de la Rosa.  Don't forget Soria and Riske, plus Dotel looks to be rounding into form.  That's hardly "dead ass."  Let's give some time for his other acquisitions to get here.

When we get people out consistently, then we can win consistently.

As for BB, I concur.

AND... what is your plan Buddo?
"The last four games, it sounds like we're talking about the same game," manager Buddy Bell said. "Not enough pitching. Not enough offense."

Why not take everyone out for ice cream?
Maybe that will make them happy.  You and Berroa can make animal noises together and maybe hire one of those animal balloon makers to highlight your new act.

Or we could play small ball?  Just a thought!!!!

Glory Days
The Royals that won the pennant were a small ball team, and that's the nature of winning ball in Kaufman Stadium. Pitching, defense and moving runners along; pretty simple.

I got here just in time for Elarton to give up a grand slam.   And we hit into a DP...

Buddyball, I will cheer for this team until the cows come home.   But, we need a new plan and a new voice.

Why did this quote from The Office remind me of Buddy Bell?

"I think the main difference between me and Donald Trump is that, uh, I get no pleasure out of saying the words, "You're fired." (as Donald Trump) "You're foir-ed. Uh, you're foir-ed." It just makes people sad, and an office can't function that way. No way. (as Donald again) "You're foir-ed."  I think if I had a catchphrase it would be, "You're hired, and you can work here as long as you want."-Bud..err..Michael Scott

Dear Mr. Bell
Thank you for your three years of service as manager of the Kansas City Royals.  Like you, we are disappointed that your already historically awful career winning percentage actually worsened during your tenure.

We, a once proud franchise, wish to again become unaccustomed to losing.  We have concluded that terminating our relationship with you is an essential part of that effort.

Enclosed please find a check for the remaining pro-rated portion of your salary for the season and a letter attesting to your strong personal character and considerable prowess as a player.

We wish you every success in your future endeavors, wherever they might lead you.

Sincerely,

Ottawa 2, Anaheim 1
Great game 1. The NHL has a great series going on here. Will anyone watch? that's the question.

What good is the 100 loss pace if the O's don't go double digit?

And there you have it
forty-five runs allowed in forty-five innings.  There is a symmetry to our suckitude.

i guess at least we aren't the yankees
and we aren't getting a wholly justified and media glorified Titanic sized comeuppance.

9-1
i feel good about that score

by Freneau on May 28, 2007 9:32 PM EDT reply actions

I'm fine with losing
as long as we can make sure its not record setting in any way.

Work Left To Do
Double digits are still within reach.

Suckitutde... good name for it...
Denny just said that Ducky is running of gas.  He went three innings...what do you expect him to do.

9-1..... Trachsel is going to try for a complete game...

This Steve Trachsel... he is as old as dirt and we are letting him dominate us.   God, we suck....just suck...

embarassingly pathetic
right up there with the beatdown we took from Chad Durbin

by Freneau on May 28, 2007 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

How old you ask? He came up in 1993.
He has been in the bigs for 14 years is dominating us.

We deserve this.... come on Berroa make us feel good and make some animal sounds.

Yes we are, I am sure he could manage
this team better than Buddo.  I wonder what Teahen would look like in a tutu.

Monster Comeback Redux
I listened to so many A's games when I was a kid I couldn't swear to this, but I seem to remember overcoming a 10 run deficit in the 9th against the Yankees. Kubek let a ball go through his legs to start it.

Today's idiocy from Buddy Bell...
From the Royals website...

"The Royals announced their plans for catchers John Buck and Jason LaRue on Monday afternoon. Manager Buddy Bell said the pair will catch certain starting pitchers -- Buck will handle ace Gil Meche, Jorge De La Rosa and Odalis Perez, and LaRue will take Brian Bannister and Monday's starter Scott Elarton."

"John has done a good job and I want to get Jason some at-bats," Bell said.

Why?  Why does Frenchy need ANY at-bats?

This club will never win as long as Buddy Bell is the manager.

If I were GMDM... I would be in the clubhouse
and yelling.  Someone needs to be doing something...  Don't give me this wait till next year...because I will tell you trade the whole damn bunch for a hot tball team and the SS and CF from Hawaii.

I may be pathetic...because I just spent
3 hours listening and blogging with you for this team.   Hello, my name is Grudz and I am a Masochist.  So, I will be back here tommorrow for punishment that I seem to love.  Because this team has suckitude....

At least the fans got fireworks....yee haw....

Buddy, sounds like he is going to cry.
He sounds like a whipped puppy.  I would love to see some fire.  I would like to see him pissed.  I don't want to hear bullshit.  Learn how to be consistent... isn't that his job to get the team to do that.

His last comment was "that we just have to keep playing... just keep playing."

by grudz69 on May 28, 2007 9:52 PM EDT reply actions

Buddo, I am tired of the Royals to JUST KEEP
PLAYING.... they have done that for four years and we JUST KEEP LOSING.  It is time for you to go.  I don't want a whipped puppy... I want someone who is bleeped out of the interview.  I want him to go back into the clubhouse and kick some ass.

FIRE THE CLOWN AND HIRE A VET....

Do you think the Nebraska coach would put up with this?  GMDM wake up you have a problem....

Bleeped out of the interview
My kind of manager. We're on the same wavelength Grudz. I want Hal back or my boy Frank. Those guys have a fire that burns deep in their bellys. Someone will rip me and say that I don't know for sure that they would save the franchise. That's true, but I do know that they've got a competitive fire and a love for this team. Either one of those two guys would give 100% at all times for this club and we all know that. Hal might not come back, but I know Frank would take the job.
