Game 30 Open Thread- Tigers (16-11) at Royals (10-19)

The Royals take on the Tigers for the seventh time (2-4) this season tonight at the K. With a win, the Royals can improve to 7-9 at home, thanks in part to the stirring series split with the Angels.

Success or failure rests on the shoulder of Brian Bannister (0-1, 4.91 ERA), who makes his third start as a Royal. The Tigers counter with Justin Verlander (1-1, 2.79 ERA).

Send the Tigers back to the Pet Shop Boys.

Banny versus Verlander? We've got the Tigers right where we want 'em.

When BP's super computers simulate the rest of the season a million times, the Royals average a 73-89 record, even storming back to take the Central 3% of the time. Be sure to head to Bless You Boys and remind them that the Royals are in this to win this!

Verlander can't throw strikes!
Royals hitters can't stop striking out! A paradox or an oxymoron??? Only time will tell!

in my ptomistic crystal ball
i see a 8-6 win tonite with duckworth going 2.1 to get the win.

banny pitches decent but not great, and verlander gets hit hard in the 7th....

I am out of here at 8 pm. I am taking my wife
out to dinner to celebrate her sale of one of her prize winning quilts to a collector in NY.  It amazes me what people will pay for quilts and then she will look at me and ask how much some signed baseballs sell for....  whatever trips your trigger...

So, I want us to score early and often and I want the Banana to pitch a no hitter.  If that doesn't work out I will just settle for a win.

Hey all,
I'll be listening to the KU - K-State game and watching the Royals on replay later tonight so I won't be able to banter.  KU plays on TV tomorrow at 3PM, Fox Sports Midwest, if any of you have an itch to watch.

For walking him with 2 outs, after being ahead in the count 0-2. I hate, hate, hate pitchers that nibble 0-2. If I'm the manager or the pitching coach, I'm bitching his ass out in the dugout about that.

With a bit less of a breaking ball. One of those 5-6 IP, 100 pitch guys. In watching his Seattle start, I wasn't overly impressed... his control isn't good enough to be any more than a 4-5 starter.

I have a bad feeling GMDM will be down on Hudson
Since he was a Baird guy. The upside is, I doubt anybody would trade for huddy because of the injury history + lack of track record. I really hope we dump Elarton and keep Hudson. Maybe dump Perez too, but I think he can still be decent.

Bannister is pitching a staplegun game
By staplegun game, I mean watching him pitch is almost as painful getting nailed in the head with a staplegun. I think you could call what he's doing "Scattering baserunners", en route to a 5IP 100 pitch performance.

Incorrect.  Bring in Todd Wellemeyer and he gives away the ballgame.  I've said it before and I'll say it again - Buddy Bell has to go.  He is a detriment to this franchise and is keeping us from where we need to be.

Nah, just a rebuilding year.
They lost seven players to the pros after last year.  Four of their five starters, their cleanup hitter, their all-time base hit leader, their all-American closer.  There just was no way they were going to replace all that talent.

The year has gone worse then I expected, but I can't say they are in shambles.  Just struggling.  I expect they will do fine next year as long as Morrison, Allman and Ryne Price don't sign early contracts.

my Booger tends to give me tough love...very fussy when he doesn't want to be messed with and I try it anyways (he's too snuggly for me not to, honestly), but I know for a fact that when I was gone for months and months out in Utah he would become very smothering with my parents because they didn't give him the same level of attention that I did.

He loves me, he just doesn't like to show it ;) Typical cat.

Casie, no reserve on her part
She is just made of love.  Give her an ounch of attention and she smiles and prances and kisses and roars.  Dogs are easy.  They just love ya.

She's an old girl now, 12 years old.  Slowing down.  But she still has some pup in her when she sees me coming home.

by James Quinn on May 4, 2007 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

if dogs were allowed in the K
I would require you to bring her to one of the RR meet-n-greet outings...

by loyal2theroyals on May 4, 2007 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If dogs were allowed in the K
She'd be there with me every time I went.  Things are always better when you have your dog with you.  I'd buy her a hotdog, bring her blanket, she'd catch one of those bazooka dogs from Slugger.  Good times.

by James Quinn on May 4, 2007 10:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

they should have dog night
or...something. Allow dogs on Hot Dog day...not only because of the food, but you'd probably get some pretty dogs coming in, too.

It's late, I'm tired, and my puns are bad. You'll have to forgive me.

Chad Durbin vs. Grienke.

That sounds like a win to me.

Buddy sure as hell ain't going to do anything about it.

my lord
if we don't capitalize on this, I'm going to cry.

quick poll: how soon do you think we'll reach 20 losses?

a) tonight
b) sometime this week
c) June
d) NEVER

by loyal2theroyals on May 4, 2007 10:39 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I'm praying for B
and probably would have seen that happen had we not thrown Todd "I can't get an out if my life depended on it" Wellemeyer into the mix.

by loyal2theroyals on May 4, 2007 10:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

John Buck vs. Verlander
I'll go with Buck. I think he could take him. I wish I had as much patience as Buck has. Verlander would've been visiting his dentist tomarrow if he had hit me twice.

by royaldaddy on May 4, 2007 10:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I guess I should get a little upset
over all the hit by pitches, but to tell the truth I'm normally just happy for the free base.  The only guy I don't like seeing hit right now if DDJ.

by James Quinn on May 4, 2007 10:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Buck has been hit twice tonight
This is getting a little ridiculous. Like I said, if that would've been me, I'd be poppin' knots all over Verlander's dome.

by royaldaddy on May 4, 2007 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You're probably right LOL
I've been drinking the Boulevard ever since I saw Wellemeyer's Big Bird looking ass coming in. I just want to see a fight. It works for pumping up a team in hockey.

Yeah, it is a sad story
but when I found out about the circumstances, I had to think it was his own damn fault and it's good he only killed himself.  Jackasses need to grow up or stop putting other people in danger.

The older I get the more I find myself thinking, "that jackass acts like nothing else in the world matters but his freedom to act like an ass.  Newsflash, other people exist."

Now whose hitting the bitter bottle.

by James Quinn on May 4, 2007 10:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I wonder what Buck does to keep himself from
charging the mound when he gets plunked. I like to think that he quietly sings "There is Sunshine in my Soul Today" to himself in attempt to calm himself down a bit.

by loyal2theroyals on May 4, 2007 10:54 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

If they let Casie into the K,
when Buck got drilled I'd point to the mound and she'd take the offender down.

by James Quinn on May 4, 2007 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

but then they'd put her in puppy paw cuffs
and take her downtown for booking...and that would be sad :(

So, what's up with Sweeney
dipping down so far when he settles into the batters box this year.  He looks like he is getting ready to take a dump.  Is he foreshadowing his production at the plate by mimicking that he is crapping?  "I'm up again, like I give a ...."

by James Quinn on May 4, 2007 11:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

no criticizing
the yoga is working, as is Benny's love. As long as he's producing I don't give a shit what he does in the batter's box pre-swing.

We still have a ROY candidate, folks, and his name isn't Gordon.

by royaldaddy on May 4, 2007 11:11 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

on another note...
had we not pulled in Wellemeyer, this could possibly be a different ball game right now.

by loyal2theroyals on May 4, 2007 11:11 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Someone should tell Emil
that Wellemeyer called his fielding "one long adventure."  Emil would take a bat to that man and all of us would have one less problem in our lives.

but now, I'm going for a Butler. That dude is awesome!!!!!

by royaldaddy on May 4, 2007 11:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

awww...poor Billy
getting pulled for a pinch runner. Who are they putting in at first now?

my guess: Sweeney at first, German to DH! Then again, I have no idea how the mind of Buddy Bell works...

by loyal2theroyals on May 4, 2007 11:15 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

German to 3b, Alex to 1st
Huh, shouldn't it be the other way?

Gobble in for his first action in about a week.

Two pitches, two outs.

Bring on shaky-ass Todd Jones. We can light him up too!

I just returned to say that Butler rules
Gordon still sucks

And we threw away all chances of winning this game when Wellemeyer got on the mound.

anyone going to the Oakland games?
I might be up there Wed/Thurs. Just depends on the work schedule IF I get the job I interviewd for today. Cross your fingers for me, guys. This job would be really nice to have.

by loyal2theroyals on May 4, 2007 11:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

details about the job? Why you want it?
Is it a job breaking Wellemeyer's kneecaps?  If so, I'll help you prep for that interview.

by James Quinn on May 4, 2007 11:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

full time summer position at a daycare
carting school age kids around Jeff City. I mostly want it because the older kids are easier to watch and it pays decently for a position like that.

Why should I have to do it? You can be the Jeff Gillooly to my Tanya Harding. We all know that ladies don't do the grunt work themselves :)

I'm a dignified old man, I have a reputation

be a good thing.  Wake up the club.  Maybe Buddy should have gone out and gotten himself tossed.  The team did look listless.

F Todd Wellemeyer and F Buddy Bell
but Billy Butler is a bonafide stud, man. If Gordon would pull his head out of his ass, we could have a combo of Teahen, Sweeney, Butler, Gordon in the middle of our lineup that would be pretty damn good.
