Royals Retro bails me out again...-RR

Blech. Just a dreary week. An embarrassing sweep by the Tigers, an embarrassing effort last night against Oakland and buckets of rain all week. Our last two softball games have been rained out and its not looking good for tonight.

Even normally sunny Bob Dutton gives the Royals an "F" for their effort last night. When you've lost the base, the war is lost.

Uncle Rico is disgusted with the Royals play

JoPo preaches patience with the plan. We may be jaded as fans with the "Allard Baird Three Year Four Year Five Year Plan", but it really is way too early into the Dayton Moore era to make any kind of conclusions. The man hasn't even conducted his first amateur draft!

Zack to the pen? Just what are Dayton and Buddy thinking? Zack has made three excellent starts - and four poor ones. That gets you the Jeremy Affeldt Treatment?

Royals Director of Player Development J.J. Picolo expects big things out of Chris Lubanski this year.

JoPo  takes a look at the worst fielders of all-time and Emil Brown and Angel Berroa are only omitted because they have not played the minimum number of games. But Vince Coleman made it! Ka-BOOM!

At least Royals telecasts haven't gotten so boring that Denny and Ryan are left to make domestic violence jokes. Hey who doesn't love a good wife-beating giggle?

Beyond the Boxscore takes a look at the best bullpens in baseball. I'm shocked the Royals don't make the list. No real surprises near the top, although it is surprising to see how quickly the Indians have turned their bullpen woes around.

The Royals made a major trade yesterday dealing Omaha 1B/DH Graham Koonce to Atlanta for the popular "Player to be Named Later". I assume this is just to clear room on the Omaha roster, and maybe get some guys regular at bats.

Speaking of trades, would the Royals have any interest in a couple of guys DFAed by other clubs?

SS Josh Wilson

P Jason Davis

Seems like guys we could use.

Ever wondered who the 89th Greatest Royal of All-Time is? Its Paul Byrd.

Paul Byrd spent over twenty years portraying "Dr. Frasier Crane" on "Cheers" and "Frasier"

ABC has set 2010 as the last year for "Lost". But when will Royals fans be rescued?

One of "The Others"

Today is the anniversary of:

The Battle of Meggido in 1457 B.C. between Thutmose III and a large Canaanite coalition under the King of Kadesh. Meggido is the location for many wars throughout history, including the last one ever - Armageddon

The City of Reno, Nevada was founded 139 years ago today giving us a slightly amusing police force

Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard publishes Dianetics.  All hail Zenu!

And Happy Birthday Tony Gwynn, Brandon Webb, Prince Fielder, Aaron Harang, Andrew W.K., Billy Joel, Candice Bergen, Stevie Yzerman, and hottie Rosario Dawson.

Happy Birthday you saucy minx

Do we only trade with Atlanta now?
Have we signed some sort of exclusive rights deal with Atlanta.

Am I seeing too many black helicopters following me and being paranoid when I'm starting to think that the reason Dayton Moore took this crappy job in KC is because the Braves wanted him to be a plant in the organization so they could use the Royals as their own farm system? Then in a couple years they'll bring Dayton back as their GM after he's operated as a satellite operative in KC as the Royals "GM" wink wink nod nod?

I mean which do you buy more (no pun intended), Dayton turning down a Red Sox gig and then snapping up the Royals GMship, or him being a secret operative for the Braves placed strategically in the most apathetic and pathetic organization in all of baseball, so as to provide the Braves with an additional farm team angle?

Seriously. Think about it.

I gotta run, I think one of those helicopters just spotted me again.

UPDATE: Guess who's NOT playing for Omaha today?
I'll give you a hint:  Brazell is DH'ing and Cortez is playing firstbase.

I thought the trade of Koonce meant Cap'n Kangaroo would get the opportunity to play every day, but it looks like Moore promoted Brazell to ensure that this would not happen.

Good thing, too.  I always prefer giving more at bats to 27 year old firstbasemen w/ career OPS's of .786 than 25 year old firstbasemen w/ career OPS's of .878.

It's also good thing the American League doesn't feature a DH, because if it did, then we might be tempted to promote Kid Melbourne to see if he can out hit Mike Sweeney and his .710 OPS.

Uncle Rico
I asked this question a year or two ago on the former Royals Corner, and someone said he's from Idaho, and is a big Idaho Chukars fan, shooting down my George Brett buddy theory.  Gries was born in Glendale, CA in 1957, and that sounded familiar regarding Brett, but it turns out Brett was born in 1953 in Glen Dale, WV, later moving to CA...

Definately
i would definately try to get Josh Wilson and Jason Davis. We could trade/release/send down Brown or Costa and have Wilson as a back-up shortstop, and Davis would be an improvement over Wellemeyer.
