Game 64 Open Thread- Philles (32-30) at Royals (23-40)

The fate of Royals-Phillies will be dramatically determined today in Kansas City, with each team taking one of the initial two games by 4-run margins. On the heels of a dispiriting 4-0 loss on Saturday afternoon, the Royals should be especially anxious to start playing ball again.

The Phillies send the 75 year-old Jamie Moyer (5-4, 4.08 ERA) to the mound, with Moyer making his 32nd career start against the Royals. In those 31 previous starts, Moyer is 14-8 with a 3.32 ERA. Of course, he's been playing since 1986, so that matchup stat doesn't really tell us much, even less than those things ever do.

For the Royals, Jorge de la Rosa (4-6, 4.60 ERA) is the man on a mission. Last week, Rosey lost a legitimate "tough luck" game, falling to C.C. Sabathia and the Indians 1-0 in Cleveland. Lets see how Jorge responds to Meche's 8K performance yesterday... he likely doesn't want to fall too far behind Gil for the team lead.

Well, actually he doesn't care, but... I care, I care somewhat.

The Phillies are bad, the Royals rule!!!

17 runs!
Genius batting Grudz 3rd today.

Hindsight, gotta love it, lol!

Great....
Gator comes up and starts tearing the league apart like it is AAA, and bats 9th. I'd rather have Grudz down there.

RR, you were so off your game today
of all guys to pick on, sorry, this isn't fair, I know. Actually, I love that he might be building back some trade value.

its moving again

I thought perhaps Jamie Moyer had died of old age on the mound
or that senility had struck and he had forgotten all about the ballgame

When things go well
for the Royals, Buddy sits and eats sunflower seeds.  When things go bad, he sits there and eats sunflower seeds.  No fire or emotion for anything...the living definition of a loser.  But it's OK because he's a good "baseball man".

Whatever
one thinks of the strategy, it's good to see the team execute something like a sacrifice.  Seems like it's been a while since we did little things well.

Sacrificing here is horrible strategy but
I'd like to think he was bunting for a hit

Things are going well
Royals' bats are alive and the Shockers just tied it in the top of the 9th.

by Pauli on Jun 10, 2007 3:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Deeeeej!
Two out RBI erase a lot of sins.  [Like BB bunting with Gathright and German whiffing with the man on third and only one out].

Anyway, it's all good...

the Wichita State pinch runner is Blake Hurlbutt.

crooked numbers
in consecutive innings.  First time that's happened since May 23rd.  Just did the research on ESPN.com.  Wow.

It's a good thing Bob Gibson
doesn't pitch for the Royals. Ryan Howard would be taking the next fastball in the earhole for just staring at that homer. What a cocky sum bitch.

Hey all
just getting in here.

I don't care if we win or lose now. Tony Pena Jr homered!

How is Duckworths ERA still in the twos?
it seems like he always gives up a run in his relief appearances.

are we not in the NL?

14-7 the last two years against NL competition.  What a sad league.

Strange series comment by Denny
Hi all,

Just jumping into radio side of the game.  How can the Royals suck so badly one night and score 11 runs the next day.  Of course, we love the wild pitches with runners on third.

by daveyork on Jun 10, 2007 5:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Now crooked numbers
in three consecutive innings, and five of the last six.

Recall that we hadn't had even TWO crooked numbers in a row since May 23rd!

we should get bagels today.

PS  did you catch Bob Davis?

and can we keep these guys...

I am impressed.  We scored on every pitcher they put in there.  So, why did Rosey leave in the 4th?  Is he hurt?  What?   For all you Pena doubters... 2-2 with 2 RBI's.  Not bad.

Go Blue... what a way to ease into a day off.  Way to go guys...  It sort of makes up for last night..sort of...

I hope this carries over to Tuesday and we can fry some fish.  Those guppies won't know what hit em.  Go Blue

We can't eat fish yet
We are going to have some bar-b-que turdbird for dinner Tue, Wed, and Thurs. I'm going to love talking shit to all those arrogant jack-ass Cardinals fans.
